Ajit Pai, the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), warned phone service providers that if they don't crack down on fraudulent caller IDs from robocallers his agency will step in with regulation.
Pai sent letters to major wireless carriers in November demanding that they adopt industry-wide frameworks to crackdown on the practice of "spoofing," where robocallers mask a call's origin with a fraudulent number on their caller ID. On Wednesday, the FCC chair followed up with another demand that they implement caller authentication systems this year and a threat over the repercussions if they don't comply.

Anybody else notice that Rachel seems to have changed her name? Last dozen or so spoofed spam calls from "Rachel", same voice, but different name.
How does "Rachel" make money for whomever is behind the calls, anyways?

Uh?
The law make too much sense.
Occasional cortex and her cadre of sub room temp cretins would counter that FCC ruling in a heartbeat.

The do not call registry is a joke.
That's why I use NoMoRobo.
Not perfect but purdy dang good. It has stopped a hell of a lot of the calls I used to get.

Good. Im sick of this spoofing nonsense. An organization I regularly donate to called me with a spoofed number. I told them I like their mission but wont donate because of their unethical phone practices.

I'm on the DNC registry, or at least I think I am. I get so many phone calls about, "There is nothing wrong with your credit account...". They all have the same voice and words, different number...
The DNC registry is swiss cheese...

Ive gotten over a dozen robo calls this week...I have an app that keeps track.I get a lot of them, and being a real estate agent I sometimes get calls from potential clients whose numbers I may not recognize. But I've discovered that when I pick up if I don't say anything for about five seconds the robocall will beep-beep-beep and move on, while if there's a person there they will usually say something after three or four seconds of silence.

It violates the do not call registry.
Which is useless because 90% of these calls originate outside the U.S. using web-based VOIP systems. Not in our jurisdiction.
