California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he'll have a plan within 60 days for dealing with the recent bankruptcy filing by Pacific Gas & Electric after years of devastating wildfires.

Newsom said in his first state of the state address Tuesday that he has convened a team of the nation's best bankruptcy lawyers and financial experts from the energy sector. They will work with his administration to develop what he called a comprehensive strategy.

He's promising to ensure that safe, affordable power will continue to flow. He says he'll seek justice for wildfire victims, fairness for the utility's employees, and protection for ratepayers.

Newsom says the state won't waver on its ambitious clean energy goals, but must also address the pressure that climate change is putting on utilities.

He sounds like Chavez in the early days of Venezuelan socialism. Give a good speech about justice and blue sky future performance while doing an asset grab. Whether the grab is supported directly by the military, or indirectly through the courts, is a country-specific detail.

but must also address the pressure that climate change is putting on utilities.

That would be zero.

HORRIFIC environmental policies may have contributed though.

I don’t know how life on earth survived before every species could be protected by CA.

Fortunately, we already know what will happen, seeing as the government of Venezuela runs its electric company.

Onward the Revolution!

Cal protecting PG+E from bankruptcy caused by shoddy maintenance on power line leading to fires. Brown protected a company with gas leaks when his sister sat on the board.

This could be an Atlas Shrugged moment for PG&E. All the employees just walk away

He has no jurisdiction here. It's in the hands of the bankruptcy court and public utilities commission.

That's a good thing, since he just promised everyone everything they want, which is impossible.

Prior to leaving office, Brown signed legislation that effectively allows PG&E to roll any costs of litigation and legal penalties off to their customers.

He is forgetting the cost of all the hats related to his plan. The hats will be needed to protect citizens from the crap falling from the flying pigs.

What a loon.
