A lawyer for American Media Inc. pushed back at Amazon founder Jeff Bezos claim that the parent company of the National Enquirer threatened to expose nude selfies and bawdy text messages he exchanged with his mistress.
It absolutely is not extortion and not blackmail, Elkan Abramowitz said on ABCs This Week Sunday. That is not extortion because all that AMI wanted was the truth.
He said the information about Bezos and former TV anchor Lauren Sanchez came from a reliable source.
Bezos and Ms. Sanchez knew who the source was, Abramowitz said. Any investigator who was going to investigate this knew who the source was.
It was not the White House. It was not Saudi Arabia, he continued. And the libel that was going out there slamming AMI was that this was all a political hatchet job sponsored by either a foreign nation or somebody politically in this country.
Bezos tasked his personal security consultant Gavin de Becker with investigating how the National Enquirer managed to get hold of the sexy messages the billionaire exchanged with Sanchez that ended up in a spread last month in the National Enquirer.
De Becker said he questioned Sanchezs brother, Michael, who has tied to Trump associates, Stone and Carter Page.
Michael Sanchez denied the allegations.

Cackle cackle. This weird-looking guy explains the term dickhead. Literally and figuratively.
That is absolutely hysterical!!
Not a fan or admirer of Bezos by any means, but a threat of “stop doing X or we’ll publish embarrassing photos of you” does seem a bit like blackmail.
Well Jeffy, the Cloud can see all.
Not Blackmail, it’s Irony.
What exactly did the National Enquirer request?
Democracy dies with d**k pics
I think the mistress is the most likely source.
She probably was bragging to her girlfriends or included the stuff with a loan application...
Telling a prominent person "if we don't get your side of the story, we'll have to go public with what we have already" is a well-established way to get an interview when one has been refused.
I guess he got dating advice from Carlos Danger.
Exactly. AMI may be unsavory but it wasn’t born yesterday.
And that is the straightforward explanation given to people by the media all the time when they have negative info and are giving the subject the opportunity to counter or refute it before publication.
I've never heard of such a thing. Oh, wait.
Bezos was involved in trying to expose by coercion the Enquirer’s reporting sources - they were perfectly correct in trying to protect those sources and their freedom of the press......
Democracy Dies in Darkness!
He wants everyone to see his penis - that’s what this whole thing is about...
