I think your move makes the story less serious and credible[.] I think you damaged its impact, Tapper wrote to Smith on Jan. 10, 2017, just after BuzzFeed published the dossier in full on its website.
.....
Collegiality wise it was you stepping on my d!ck, Tapper responded.

Tapper apparently was afraid the public would discover that the dossier is super partisan super fake news. What was "irresponsible" was for Tapper and CNN to use it in an attempt to smear and frame Trump.

I’ll give Tapper credit for one thing. CNN was supposedly approached by Steele directly in 2016, and they refused to run the story because they couldn’t confirm it.

Mustn’t let the rubes actually see the worthless POS.
They might realize it is a worthless POS.

That’s a bit like giving a guy credit for not helping a buddy rob a bank even though he doesn’t turn him in and then perjures himself giving his buddy an alibi.

Think of how pathetic that whole narrative was. The dossier wasn't credible enough for CNN, but it was credible enough for the FBI to get a FISA warrant.

In a fair world, Jake would rot in a crowded county lockup for two years.

Tapper was covering his tracks and CNN's culpability in this email. James Clapper
briefed Tapper on the dossier, and CNN promoted the story
before BuzzFeed published the dossier, then
linked to the dossier immediately after it was published.

This email suggests that wouldn’t be the reason why they wouldn’t have directly published it.
To: Alberta's Child
Maybe, but in this email exchange and his position in Jan. 2017 Tapper is actually much worse, in the sense that he wants CNN to be able to report on rumors and “allegations” without needing to produce any evidence at all. So Tapper/CNN’s position seemed to be that they would use the fraudulent “hook” of Comey briefing Trump (an extremely partial, one-sided briefing as we later learned), while not needing to verify anything about the memos.
At least Smith/Buzzfeed, as bad as they are, put the fraudulent document into the public arena.... which helped with the unraveling of the entire hoax, even if two years later it is taking much too long to play out.

"uncollegial" is journo-speak for 'not knowing your place in the Prog pecking order'.
You want collusion? Here it is.

Tapper - I think your move makes the story less serious and credible[.] I think you damaged its impact. As long as this dossier was not public it could be considered as serious and credible. I am retired from DIA and have seen thousands of classified documents. I recognized this dossier as a fraud on the first page. Although it was not an official government document, it was produced by someone who supposedly worked in intel. There is no classification Confidential/Sensitive Source. It would be higher than Top Secret certainly since the sensitive source was supposedly close to the head of state. If it was real someone would be paying with their life.
To: Vehmgericht
I’m glad you and other FR posters understand the story. When I first saw the title I thought it might mean Tapper was castigating Smith for trying to smear Trump. Nope. Smith was “stepping on” Tapper’s d!ck by revealing the truth (not necessarily willingly — court ruling). I hope we see more establishment d!icks stepped on.
