This morning, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released an overview of her “Green New Deal” which threatens "a massive transformation of our society."
Below are the details of the proposal:
“Upgrade or replace every building in US for state-of-the-art energy efficiency.”
The Green New Deal is “a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.”
“It’s unclear if we will be able to decommission every nuclear plant within 10 years, but the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible.”
“Build out highspeed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary”.
“We believe the right way to capture carbon is to plant trees and restore our natural ecosystems. CCUS technology to date has not proven effective.”
“Ensure that all GND jobs are union jobs that pay prevailing wages and hire local.”
“We’re not ruling a carbon tax out, but a carbon tax would be a tiny part of a Green New Deal.”
“…Cap and trade may be a tiny part of the larger Green New Deal plan.”
No estimate of the total cost of implementing the Green New deal is offered by Ocasio-Cortez.
However, as Ocasio-Cortez admits, “even if every billionaire and company came together and were willing to pour all the resources at their disposal into this investment, the aggregate value of the investments they could make would not be sufficient.”
She does provide one estimate that the cost to “repair and upgrade infrastructure U.S. infrastructure” alone will cost “$4.6 trillion at minimum.”
Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t provide any insight into how the trillions of dollars in spending will be paid for other than claiming, “The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit”. But as Ocasio-Cortez says, “the question isn’t how will we pay for it, but what will we do with our new shared prosperity”.

Clueless ignorant people can come up with fantasy plans, but those who understand science and logic and actually build things in real life, look at those plans made by someone with a toddler’s mind and just laugh.

I’m perfectly happy, for now, having her as the consummate representative of millennial Democrats — as long as she’s around we will always have an easy time finding a Democrat to mock.
Who knows, maybe in a few years she’ll be the VP candidate for a third party — and siphon away a large potion of Democrat votes?

I’m betting that the Dems are working feverishly on primaring her. They can’t afford the risk that the Republicans run someone decent.

So within 10 years we end all fossil fuels and nuclear plants. Like where will we get our energy? There isn’t enough landmass in the country to provide space for all the windmills and solar farms needed to provideeven a fraction of our electric needs. If we end fossil fuels presumably we will need not only electric cars, but electric trucks and electric powered farm machinery. Practical heavy haul electric trucks and electric farm machinery do not exist. Does she propose that we go back to horse drawn farm equipment? Does she have any idea of how expensive creating new rail infrastructure would be or how long it would take to get the enviromental approvals to build these new railroads? Her green new deal would push our standard of living back about 135 years to the pre automobile days.
Yeah - I calculated it to cost $4.7 trillion.
I had a prof that said if a number had too many significant figures than seemed reasonable, the number was just pulled from their butt. For a number to replace every building, I’m guessing that it might be some number, with a +/- of $50 trillion dollars.
Just like Dr. Ford sounded like a 15 year old, AOC’s plan reads like an idealistic high school United Nations plan cooked up by teenagers pulling an all-nighter.
