This morning, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released an overview of her “Green New Deal” which threatens "a massive transformation of our society."
Below are the details of the proposal:
“Upgrade or replace every building in US for state-of-the-art energy efficiency.”
The Green New Deal is “a 10-year plan to mobilize every aspect of American society at a scale not seen since World War 2 to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.”
“It’s unclear if we will be able to decommission every nuclear plant within 10 years, but the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible.”
“Build out highspeed rail at a scale where air travel stops becoming necessary”.
“We believe the right way to capture carbon is to plant trees and restore our natural ecosystems. CCUS technology to date has not proven effective.”
“Ensure that all GND jobs are union jobs that pay prevailing wages and hire local.”
“We’re not ruling a carbon tax out, but a carbon tax would be a tiny part of a Green New Deal.”
“…Cap and trade may be a tiny part of the larger Green New Deal plan.”
No estimate of the total cost of implementing the Green New deal is offered by Ocasio-Cortez.
However, as Ocasio-Cortez admits, “even if every billionaire and company came together and were willing to pour all the resources at their disposal into this investment, the aggregate value of the investments they could make would not be sufficient.”
She does provide one estimate that the cost to “repair and upgrade infrastructure U.S. infrastructure” alone will cost “$4.6 trillion at minimum.”
Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t provide any insight into how the trillions of dollars in spending will be paid for other than claiming, “The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit”. But as Ocasio-Cortez says, “the question isn’t how will we pay for it, but what will we do with our new shared prosperity”.

I don't think she's planning on building trains across the ocean as much as she's declaring overseas travel unnecessary.
There will be no vacations to London or Paris in AOC's new America (not that we'll be able to afford them).
If I were a journalist, I'd have to start wondering if she was secretly working for President Trump and this whole "I'm as dumb as a box of rocks" was part of the act.

So how many billions of gallons of diesel fuel and gas will have to be spent to accomplish these goals. Won’t we shorten the 12 yrs to 6 just to do all this?
Someone should sit her down and explain in simple terms that a windmill does not produce enough energy to duplicate itself. If not for guberment subsidies there would be windmills. Of course her answer would be to use two windmills to produce enough energy.
The survivors of AOC’s suicide pact will be too busy working every day in the people’s factories, farms, and camps to vacation.

The ‘green deal’ folk should immediately set an example:
1) force their own parents to rebuild their homes to the new standard, then donate that home to an ‘underprivileged’ and move to the projects to compensate for the ‘privilege’ of having a congresscritter child.
2) walk to work, rain or shine
3) no plane or car rides - no hopping over to the Sesame St Show
4) force trees and growing vegetables not to exhale carbon dioxide
5) explain how unions benefit from lack of workers created by a universal income for those ‘not inclined’ to want to work
6) explain how underwater trains will make Hawaii, PR and Guam accessible
7) explain how to defend our allies thousands of miles away from armed attack using only solar and wind
$4.6 Trillion to rebuild every building in the United States and to completely replace the airline industry with high speed rail???? Hmmm....
