Huh: Despite Being Shot, Dems Blocked Steve Scalise From Testifying on Gun Violence

House Democrats blocked Republican Whip Steve Scalise from testifying at a hearing on "gun violence" this week despite being a victim of a shooting. The reason? He doesn't support new gun control measures Democrats are hoping to pass with their new majority.

"It was pretty bizarre. Historically when Republicans were in charge, even when Democrats were in charge prior to this more radical leftist majority, if a member of Congress wanted to testify on a committee, they always provided a venue for that to happen," Scalise said. "In this case they were holding a hearing in the Judiciary on reducing gun violence and I've got a perspective clearly mine dealt with something that happened to me and I saw how guns were used to save people's lives. It should have been able to be part of the testimony. They wanted to focus on taking away the rights of law abiding citizens which their bill ultimately does."

Well yeah. He got wounded and didn't convert to the dark side. I've had 5 acquaintances take their lives with firearms, one close friend whose teenage son died due to he and his buddies "playing" with a shotgun, looked down the barrel of a USS New Jersey 16" gun (a .22 my exwife had pointed at me) and I haven't changed my stance so why should Steve?

What a waste of time! They won't get past the Senate or the POTUS, and they don't have anywhere near a veto-proof margin!...............Democrats wasting money and time, as always....................

On Scalise, no biggie. But it does remind me of a classic appearance before the Senate by Sen. Diane Feinstein as she introduced one of her many attempts at reinstituting an "assault weapons" ban. Unfortunately for her - Ted Cruz was on the panel she was testifying before. And while most Republicans were too polite to confront her - he skewered her perfectly. Walking down a rural road one day (long story) and a yelling and quite hysterical appearing woman was running toward me with a shotgun. It was definitely one of those, is-this-how-it-ends moments. I squared off knowing she could outrun me with the shotgun and was then able to hear her babbling the word "skunk" - that didn't help much - but she finally added a couple of words, "in my backyard" and handed me the weapon.

I was quite relieved and obliged her.

So let them hold their hearings... Trump has shown the way, Congress and the MSM are headed towards obsolescence. There was a suspicious story of a Texas man who was the victim of a home invasion by 3 or 4 armed, masked thugs. The suspicion was why/how the 20-year old had so many things of value, but it is not really relevant to the point.

The victim used an AK-47 with a 75 round magazine to fend them off. If Texas had laws like New York, California and Illinois, he would have been one man with a 6-shooter or maybe, at most, 11 rounds against a gang of armed thugs. Outnumbered, outgunned... There are a million stories of guns being used in self defense, time to start propagating them. And, time to start propagating stories of home-invasions. As the criminals know that law-abiding people are either totally disarmed, or they have a limited number of options to defend themselves; that their weapons are locked away and unloaded etc... more and more home invasions by groups of thugs is going to occur.

If you have a Ring doorbell you can go to the app and look around - sure there are plenty of single-person burglaries and larceny; but an alarming number of groups of people casing houses, jumping into yards, even breaking into homes.

Cuba circa 1951, courtesy USN. Four of us pretty well boozed up heading back to the boat after midnight. Took a wrong turn and headed down another pier.

Somebody yells out "ALTO!" and I heard the unmistakable "snick snick" of a bolt action rifle. Out of the dark steps some guy in uniform pointing his rifle at us. Caliber looks the size of a garbage can. Instant sobriety. We yell out "AMERICANO! AMERICANO!"and backpaddle post haste.

Back aboard we tell some shipmates of our "adventure" and was told we were damn lucky, as we had encountered a member of their Maritime Police, who were notorious for being quick on the trigger.
