Vanessa Tyson, the woman accusing Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault, is a political and perhaps legal wrecking ball for the Democratic rising star who until this week was positioned to take over as governor.
Fairfax risks not only his political career but also criminal charges, with Tyson alleging an assault at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston, where a 15-year statute of limitations allows five more months for Tyson to pursue the case.

She can still file charges in Massachusetts. Leaving the state, as both did after the incident allows the charges to be frozen. The statute of limitations are lifted in such a case.
how could she ever prevail in court if there are no witnesses? it seems to me that it boils down to he-said-she-said. while i agree she is credible, in theory anyone can charge anyone with anything if there are no witnesses and no physical evidence. do any of us (especially any of us men) really want that? as i have alluded before, the root of the issue is why a woman would accompany a man she scarcely knows into his hotel room alone. i could be wrong but maybe she is not yet taking legal action because she does not have a case that has a chance in court and so risks being branded as a vexatious litigant (or worse, if Fairfax digs into her sexual past in or out of discovery). (and she already is on record as having other allegedly involuntary sexual affairs with others, which if nothing else probably makes her more vulnerable to the sluts and nuts defense). i am not necessarily saying anyone is wrong but i can only agree with what i understand completely and so far my understanding is perhaps incomplete.
i write this with personal awareness of others who have had experiences similar to tyson’s and whose credibility i have no personal or other reason to challenge. however, my concern remains the same: why would any female voluntarily put themselves in an allegedly dangerous position with something to lose? it seems analogous to walking into a dark alley at night in a crime infested city alone without any protection. yes, nothing should happen. however, yes, sometimes bad things do happen in such circumstances. it seems prudent not to tempt fate in general. why should it be any different for women walking alone into a strange man’s hotel room? when i’ve tempted fate, i have sometimes learned the hard way that it is best to be prudent. i did not go around moping about it and then complaining in public decades later. if it were to take me that long to complain, then maybe i was not hurt that badly to begin with? and maybe i was partly at fault for putting myself voluntarily into some form of peril?
I say Bite me. She could have. She was happily in a mans bed in his hotel room. Now shes hired the attorney of a woman in her 50s who is still traumatized by a grope at one high school party. Give me a break.
While it is true that a person should be able to stay stop at any moment during sex, she was not held at knifepoint, he wasnt powerful and famous, and she could have just walked out. Or bit or hurt him!
Not many, if any.
They have been conditioned by the media, academia, pop culture and hollywood to believe that Republicans are their enemy. What else could explain some of the largest, most crime and poverty ridden cities around the country reliably electing dems to their local governments year after failed year?
The only hope is that most "independents" and old school dems see the light.
Agree with you.
If any of you conservative men, single, had a night with a woman in a hotel at a convention, and decided not to call her after, even as she pursued you somewhat, you would not like to hear years later that she was accusing you of rape. It isnt fair. There is no evidence of rape.
Dr. Tyson....
Oh, thats right.
The Doctor part is only mentioned when the narrative is being used against a Repub, to reinforce the image of the accuser.
It wasn’t rape, it was forced oral sex.
Not the same, but still a serious sexual assault.
Read her story again, read the details - it’s disturbingly believable. Like the Cosby women.
She admits she is a “proud Democrat”; why would she subject herself to this kind of humiliating public scrutiny if she wasn’t seeking justice?
it seems to me that this sort of allegation imho exposes any cisgendered male who has been to college since roughly the mid 1960s (the era of the pill, the graduate and free love, if anyone is old enough to recall those watershed moments in american cultural history) to allegations of rape, even if he never actually entertained a female in his room in private or a female entertained him in her room in private. and this does not even count time under the bleachers or at a lover’s lane in an old jalopy while in high school. the possibilities seem virtually endless, and so is the potential for he-said-she-said and otherwise unfounded charges. if you think about it, it also to a lesser degree would expose women to analogous charges if life were fair (although last time i checked, life is not fair). it seems to me that you would be required to have to be permanently paralyzed from the neck down at age 11 to be immune from charges of this type. What am i missing?
my sympathies are with her as are my sympathies for other women who i have come to know who have told me in private or public their own similar horror stories. i agree it is very believable under this set of circumstances, and knowing no more info about it than we know now.
anyway... it is my uneducated understanding that some people define rape as penetration of a body orifice including the mouth by any foreign object including the alleged assailant’s penis. there might be minor variations due to regional jurisdiction by jurisdiction differences which preclude this definition. overall, i might be missing something, but if so, what? in how many if any states would the definition i just gave be correct? i do not know where i got my definition if anywhere, but about 10 years ago i binge watched some Law and Order: SVU episodes on late night cable tv. of course, that does not count as any particular expertise, medical, legal, or otherwise...
Hopefully, anybody in the legisl00ture, Dem or GOP, who is tied to this attempt to destroy the entire governor’s mansion politically, will get thrown out on his ass.
She told a Democrat official about it at the time and he did nothing about it. She has a record of it. I just dont understand why she didnt follow it through.
Well, strange that she reported it to a VA delegate two years ago, but it never came out publicly until SHORTLY AFTER RALPHIE BARFED ABOUT INFANTICIDE ON THE RADIO. And ol’ Ralphie and Herring both have blackface allegations made public, with Ralphie’s yearbook pic submitted to Big League Politics by former med classmates outraged by his abortion statements.
I’m still arguing coup attempt. If this assault really happened to Ms. Tyson, she may wind up feeling assaulted again if she realizes she’s being used in an attempt to overthrow the entire governor’s mansion.
Whoever is behind this apparently would rather have the GOP in charge, at least temporarily, than Ralphie’s crew.
Both accusers are college teachers making accusations over what happened years ago.
Both accusers were triggered to make their accusations by current events.
The accused were men moving into positions of higher political power at the time they were accused.
Both Tyson and Ford hired the same law firm.
In Tyson's favor, her story isn't full of obvious holes like Blasey Ford's.
The major difference is that only one political party is involved with Tyson and Fairfax. This is not about someone fearful that Roe v. Wade will be struck down. But, we should still be skeptical for other motives, possibly more personal or favor-related.
There’s been a sea-change in public belief in these stories in only the last year and a half; it really only started with the Weinstein allegations (October 2017).
Yes, there are some false allegations, but a lot of them are true. That’s how Bill Cosby finally got convicted of rape, while he wasn’t nailed in 2005 on the same charge.
Women aren’t going to go through the humiliation of a public viewing of their claims if they think they have no chance - that’s obvious even to me, a heterosexual male.
One obvious option is to get either or both the A-G or Lt Gov to resign *before* the Gov does, so he can then appoint someone squeaky clean to replace them.
The roadblock to that might be if Va law requires those nominations to be confirmed by the Va State Senate, which is narrowly controlled by the GOP at the moment. So it would have to be someone who is both squeaky clean *and* who'd be politically difficult to vote against. Eg a popular retired Va Dem who announces he'll be just a caretaker until the next election.
>>Tyson has hired attorney Debra Katz, who assisted Brett Kavanaugh accuser Christine Blasey Ford.
Bad move, while it would appear “wise” to choose a lawyer from a prominent case, the swamp protects its own and “your” lawyer might not really be working in your best interests.
