I have ridden in a relative's Volt about ten times. Was prolly just his Volt but the automobile had a severe internal moisture problem that fogged up all windows when it was cold. I told him to take care of it, get this fixed, that it was dangerous driving this way/ Being young and foolish I don't know if he did.

Thanks! But don’t you think that as he drove his automobile the huge battery would warm up a bit so that the driving range would be restored. Maybe those large batteries need a heating element that can be plugged in on v cold nights.
Even if you didn’t get gassed with CO, the heater put engine fumes into the passenger compartment. You always know instantly when you are in a VW or an old Porsche cockpit, and not just from the engine sound.
They are getting exactly what they deserve. Stupid ignorant people who are too stupid to understand that electric heaters draw more power than the proposition motors. I have commented on this myself multiple times, and I don’t even own one. It is just simple science. After a few years then the batteries need to be replaced as well. Besides the fact that those cost as much to do as a good used car... There are major environmental issues there as well.
Having heat in the winter in a gas powered vehicle is easy because the heat is a by product that can simply be put to use. In fact a gas powered vehicle becomes much more efficient in the winter because of this.
And all of the nonsense about electric cars being environmentally better for the environment is nonsense as well. The reasons are obvious to anyone who wants to think it through. Batteries are far from 100 percent efficient as well. Especially when they get older. For several reasons.
Unless someone invents a power source a thousand times better than current battery technology then electric cars make no sense at all except in some very limited applications like where they are being operated indoors.
I don’t feel sorry for these fools one little bit.

That entitlement and piousness is a hallmark of all EV drivers (especially Tesla drivers). They are Kings of the Roads and their rule is “Get out of my way, can’t you see I’m saving the earth?”
When I’m walking our dog around town, I am especially wary of Teslas and Priuses. They will run you down quicker than a New York can murder a full term baby. Don’t EVER trust them to stop for a stop sign or honor a crosswalk. That’s your death warrant.

Yes, that is what I mean. In a regular car if you run out of fuel in a snow storm, you just need a small gas can from the AAA guy to get you going again.
In an electric car, you will need a tow ... period. No road side charging is available.
That is what I would be deathly afraid of owning one of these things.

That is a good point. Li batteries do warm up internally and recover some capacity. One of my motorcycles has a lithium starting battery and it works best on a cold day to first turn on the headlight to warm up the battery, and then after a minute or so hit the starter.

As you drive, the battery heats up causing your range to increase. Keep driving and it increases again.
Perpetual motion has arrived, but be careful to not overcharge the battery bank.
The main reason being, on a Net/Net Basis it does absolutely nothing to save the planet, on top of that do you want a car made in a tent?
Poor little guy wouldn't pass inspection in 1991 due to rust on the frame, but great little get-around car.
The real problem with L Ion batteries is Cobalt. Besides, can the electrical infrastructure, handle the demand of everyone charging their cars overnight particularly in areas that can’t handle the existing loads during the summer time.

The Luftwaffe on the Eastern Front in the winter would put a small amount of gasoline in the crankcase. Or, so a former Luftwaffe pilot told me. Also, the tires would freeze to the ground.
Except it isn’t their money. You and I paid for a portion of their car (sort of) with our taxes. From the web:

Air cooled engines in Winter are a bear. Older VW heaters were terrible. You’d freeze your ass off.
The cold weather effects on the lithium battery are well known. Tesla owners didn’t read the fine print.
