For the first time ever, The Washington Post is airing a Super Bowl commercial during Sunday's game between the New England Patriots and the Los Angeles Rams. The 60 second spot will air during the fourth quarter, shortly before the two minute warning.
According to the news outlet , the ad is narrated by actor Tom Hanks and the message focuses on the danger journalists face. The theme is, "Democracy Dies in Darkness." Hanks was chosen as the voice for the ad because of his role as former WaPo Executive Editor Ben Bradlee in "The Post," which focused on the paper's decision to publish the Pentagon Papers.
The ad includes Images of freelance reporter Austin Tice who has been missing in Syria for six years; freelance columnist Jamal Khashoggi who was killed at the Saudi Arabian Consulate in October; and American War correspondent Marie Colvin who was killed by Syrian forces in 2012.
The Super Bowl is a remarkable moment to recognize the courage and commitment of journalists around the world that is so essential to our democracy, said Fred Ryan, publisher and CEO of The Washington Post. We decided to seize the opportunity to make this a milestone moment in our ongoing campaign. This was a chance for a broader message about the role journalists play in our everyday lives and the risks they take to bring us the facts,
Although a spokesperson for The Post refused to say how much the news outlet dropped on the ad, CNBC reported that CBS is charging $5.25 million for a 30-second slot.
The ad is not currently online but WaPo said they will publish it on their website and social media channels once the Super Bowl game is over.
Democracy dies when DemocRATS refuse to accept the result of an election because they didn’t win.
So CBS wont take political ads that are pro- America because thats against their messaging or something - but itll run this political POS.
Jeff Bozo must have paid his fellow leftard Hanks a lot of dough for this.
The only danger most of those desk pilots face is the risk of being confronted with the Truth. It's like holy water to a vampire.
Leave it to the Pest to compose a two-minute tribute to itself.
I thought Ben Bradlee was black, but I guess Im thinking of Ed Bradley. You get a pass this time, Hanks.
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner. We're not a democracy.
More believable would be “WaPo: We Make It Up and Shove It Up Your Obamahole”
Somebody should ask them when a republic dies? When thousands of illegals invade a country? When people vote themselves the keys to the treasury?
Good to know. I’ll know when to run to the kitchen for another beverage.
Tommie-the-commie has not aged well.
You know what a common cover for intelligence operative is?
Journalist.
You know what Khashoggi was? He was an operative for the Muslim Brotherhood that the WaPost gave cover to.
Was what the Saudis did reprehensible? Sure.
Was it out of line with what goes on all the time in the Middle East? Not a bit.
I’ve talked with a journalist who barely got out of Turkey with his life and his family as Erdogan consolidated power, for instance. Many did not.
It’s not something that should greatly change how we deal with the Saudis.
Look at the incredibly high (and persistent) percentage of negative coverage of Donald Trump by the Washington Post and their fellow travellers in the left wing media. Their bias is simply undeniable. Their selective coverage of facts and their manipulation of reported events to “shape” the news to fit their ideology and influence their readership is a clear and present danger to our democracy.
If the urinalists really believe they in danger, they should try the TRUTH for a change.
Can't help but think had it been Ed Gillespie's yearbook, it would have been plastered on the front page every day for a week sometime in October 2017.
Support Free Republic, Folks!
Bump!
> freelance columnist Jamal Khashoggi who was killed at the Saudi Arabian Consulate in October
So they’re running pro-Al Qaeda propaganda during the Superbowl and paying big money to do it.
When are the layoffs at WaPo coming?
Democracy thrives with truth. Journalism and the MSM die with lies.
Fittingly, an irrelevant actor spokesman for an irrelevant rag.
