The US Super Bowl halftime show, one of pop music's most visible gigs, this year went from highly coveted to largely unwanted, leaving the NFL scrambling for takers as a cultural firestorm over social justice rages.
Prominent artists including Rihanna, P!nk and Cardi B reportedly turned down the offer to headline Sunday's championship game between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams, amid the controversy over racially charged police brutality protests spearheaded by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Politics and the National Anthem Kneelers League.
Recently Brent Bozell posted an article saying the NFL has rebounded more recently after networks stopped showing the kneelers.

>>The National Football League is back on top of the ratings heap after both conference championship games were so competitive they spilled into overtime. The panic in NFL offices has ended. The bleeding stopped. Everyone knows why, and it's not the powerful high-scoring offenses and the snazzy touchdown celebrations. The NFL put an end to the national anthem kneeling protests. The focus could then return to sports, not silent gestures meant to drive home the leftist argument that we should be deeply ashamed about how America is horribly racist and police officers are a pack of murderers. This controversy drove away viewers on both sides of the debate, the patriotic Americans and the "woke" community. A Media Research Center poll found that 74 percent of likely voters said they were "trying to get away from politics and do not want to be bombarded with partisan political messages" in their sports and entertainment shows.
Maroon 5? I guess they couldn’t get a real band.

Sports and politics...the champion Red Sox are supposed to meet Trump at the White House but manager Alex Cora isn’t sure he wants to meet DJT and at least one player, Mookie Betts, does not want to go, either.
I believe when the Bruins won the Stanley Cup, goalie Tim Thomas boycotted the Obama White House.
Everything is a political message in the USA today. Nothing is just entertainment.
Just play the game and shut up about oppression - you are the most privileged individuals on the planet.
I’d love to know what a 30 second spot is going for this year....
I think I heard $4.5 mil but that a) demand was less than robust and b) this didn’t represent a significant, if any, increase from the prior year.
Hey that's a good idea. Let's get David Allan Coe for halftime.
Heads would explode.
Maybe the “controversy” will draw a few more eyes to the commercials ...
CBS Says Super Bowl Ad Slots Are Filling Up
Hmmmph. Now I'm wondering about makegoods...
I think Nickleback is free this weekend.
A lot more than if New Orleans and KC were playing.
They do have a right to protest—on their own time and on their own dime.
They have to obey the boss, even though the boss says, yeah, you can kneel if you want to...we just won’t have it shown on TV. If a WalMart greeter tells shoppers to go F themselves as they enter, he won’t have his job long.
Rush Limbaugh was dismissed from ESPN (no big loss) after what he said on air.
The Oscars, etc, are also political. Some people can’t wait to watch as their favorite films and actors are up for awards, but there will be lots of anti Trump “humor”
in a long, boring telecast. The folks who tell us we can’t have our guns make millions off of films full of gun violence, are protected by armed bodyguards, and live in mansions protected by walls. I couldn’t name most of the actors and films nominated this year. Only saw a few
films. Ant Man and the Wasp was good. I don’t think that’s up for best picture.
A funny moment did happen a couple years ago when La La Land was announced as Best Picture—though, oops, go back into your seats, please, we read the wrong envelope. At least we could laugh at that on the “highlights” on the news.
Ha ha ha! Good one! I heard on radio this morning that Adam L will make ugly comments/lies about Trump and Republicans....
Couldnt care lesss, not watching the Stuporbowl.
I heard $5.5 million on radio this morning...
I also heard tickets to attend the SB start at $5K
Rumor has it that whiter than wonder bread Maroon 5 will be "taking a knee" mid-performance.
Oooh! How brave! It's gonna be soooo woke! Adam Levine. So brave. So woke.
Not at all...
Who cares about the halftime show? For me it always looks like a worship service for someone else’s religion.
Normally I would be FOR Houston, Dallas, Tennessee, Rams, N.O., But Patriots and Rams are cheaters like O.U. so not thrilled to watch it. Invited to a S.B. watching party. Might be fun. But the game... Who Cares?????
Lots of Satanic symbols in some of them.
How about Steve Miller Band or Moody Blues?????
