The U.S. will be sending "several thousand" more American troops to the southern border to provide additional support to Homeland Security... the troops will mainly be used to install additional wire barriers and provide a large new system of mobile surveillance and monitoring of the border area. Plans call for about 150 more miles of concertina wire placed mainly in the gaps between ports of entry.

A roll (or three) of Concertina is a major slowdown when trying to get over 18 foot bollards on a ladder.
"a large new system of mobile surveillance and monitoring" sounds interesting too.
It sounds like “Victory!”
We need DRONES buzzing around down there like crazy.
And all military people should be armed, with live rounds in the mags, mags in mag wells.
And they should all have arrest and SHOOT powers.
Did u know ALL Mexicans by birth are deputized to enforce Mexican immigration law..?
yes, an able-bodied 12 year old can arrest a 35 yo invader.
The whole nation of Mexico is their border patrol:
SO, too, should it be in America.
Mexico doesn’t have open borders? The Pope should be infuriated.
Here’s an idea - when someone in the armed forces decides to leave, the US gives them the option of going to the border and fulfilling a role there. 6 or 12 months at double their usual pay rate. Add a 50% bonus to that if they use the money for education/training. It would be a nice bonus for our vets and it would help secure the border
Saving America is serious business. Tip of the iceberg.
A quiet buildup in advance of a declaration?
“the troops will mainly be used to install additional wire barriers “
Why cant they just install landmines???
I am always happy to hear they are sending military to the border, I hope some are coming to my area since our new governor wants to pull off NG troops because according to her there is no issues at the border.
I know some of you think since they aren’t allowed to apprehend illegals they can’t be doing much good but I have worked on the border when the military is there and they definitely do help in many ways. They have surveillance toys second to none and they can do many tasks that free up more BP Agents to be in the field.
Simple but effective tactic which only works where there is no significant barrier.
+1
Doesn’t mean squat unless all of III Corps is mobilized.
They should look at 10 US Code 284 B 7: (7) Construction of roads and fences and installation of lighting to block drug smuggling corridors across international boundaries of the United States.
Trump should order in the construction battalions, seabees and red horse and git r done, now and screw the courts. Americans are more important than the invaders from the south.
Fox News running the latest FakeNewsMSM big story of intel agencies undermining the President. Fox ended by saying the intel chiefs admitted there was a threat at the border, but did not address the matter of a wall!
damn these people:
30 Jan: Reuters: U.S. spy chiefs break with Trump on many threats to the U.S.
by Patricia Zengerle, Doina Chiacu
China and Russia pose the biggest risks to the United States, and are more aligned than they have been in decades as they target the 2020 presidential election and American institutions to expand their global reach, U.S. intelligence officials told senators on Tuesday.
The spy chiefs broke with President Donald Trump in their assessments of the threats posed by North Korea, Iran and Syria...
While China and Russia strengthen their alliance, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said, some American allies are pulling away from Washington in reaction to changing U.S. policies on security and trade.
The directors of the CIA, FBI, National Security Agency and other intelligence agencies flanked Coats at the Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. They described an array of economic, military and intelligence threats, from highly organized efforts by China to scattered disruptions by terrorists, hacktivists and transnational criminals...
The intelligence officials said they had protected the 2018 U.S. congressional elections from outside interference, but expected renewed and likely more sophisticated attacks on the 2020 presidential contest...
The intelligence chiefs assessments broke with some past assertions by Trump, including on the threat posed by Russia to U.S. elections and democratic institutions, the threat Islamic State poses in Syria, and North Koreas commitment to denuclearize.
Coats said North Korea is unlikely to give up its nuclear weapons. Trump has said the country no longer poses a threat.
Coats also said Islamic State would continue to pursue attacks from Syria, as well as Iraq, against regional and Western adversaries, including the United States. Trump, who plans to withdraw U.S. troops from Syria, has said the militant group is defeated...
The intelligence officials also said Iran was not developing nuclear weapons in violation of the 2015 nuclear agreement...
Senators expressed deep concern about current threats...

III Corps is for big war. No heavy armor missions in this mix.
This is mainly a job for combat engineers and general purpose soldiers - installing Concertina. The really effective stuff is installed on top of the 18 foot or taller bollards, but even just on the ground it really helps with those caravan swarm tactics.
There is also a bunch of general logistic support - air transport, medics for detainees, life support/base camp support, etc..
And finally there is reconnaissance/surveillance, where apparently they are deploying some new capability.
Although pretty much any combat arms Battalion could reasonably take six weeks to rotate into the field and string Concertina, there are probably enough Engineer units to do most of that. 150 miles this year, maybe another 150 miles next year.
Somebody from Ft.Hood should get a turn on the border though, so they can talk trash about later. There is a lot of troops there, and not too far to travel. The III Corps Engineers should definitely get a piece.
I agree.
It looks like the Military will be providing economy of force support to free up Border Patrol Officers, like they would typically do.
The Acting Secretary of Defense also said they would “provide a large new system of mobile surveillance and monitoring of the border area” - so that might be a bit of a game changer.
This time, when the Military leaves, they will leave behind more and more barrier each time. An Iron Mountain of Concertina is getting strung. There will probably be over 1,000 people out there six days a week installing Concertina, month after month. After a while, they will get better at it.
The first big deployment under Trump reinforced the main Ports of Entry against Caravan mob rush tactics. It seems that they will start extending further from those Ports of Entry as the deployments go on.
A couple of years of that, and a couple of years of faster bollard installation, will make a significant impact. There are other border security efforts developing at the same time.
