When Apollo 11s Eagle lunar module landed on the moon on July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin had to do something hard: Wait. They were scheduled to open the door of their lunar lander and step onto the unknown surface of a completely different world. But for now, their mission ordered them to take a pause before the big event.
And so Aldrin spent his time doing something unexpected, something no man had ever attempted before. Alone and overwhelmed by anticipation, he took part in the first Christian sacrament ever performed on the moona rite of Christian communion.
Aldrins lunar communion has since become shrouded in mystery and confusion, but the rite itself was relatively simple. The astronaut was also an elder at Webster Presbyterian Church, and before he headed into space in 1969, he got special permission to take bread and wine with him to space and give himself communion.

Common Knowledge.
LOL
I don’t think you’re wrong there.
I suppose so. And please tell me, what guy would need porn on a short trip to the moon?
Good grief. A historic event like that and they couldn’t have a higher standard for a few days?
Fatima, others have said so too. I don’t recall it, and I’m not exactly out of touch with reality on the programs.
It was more or less hush hush, but leaked out on the QT.
It certainly wasn’t heralded as one man’s faith, something that wouldn’t have been out of line at all.
If you want to use their logic, we shouldn’t have sent White men to the Moon, because other races wouldn’t have been represented.
A Christian went. Others weren’t represented. Boo hoo.
I think we capitulate too much.
Thanks for the mention. Perhaps everyone knew but me. If I had ever heard of it, I have forgotten.
The nudie pics were a prank slipped into the step-by-step manuals the astronauts wore on one sleeve.
It was indeed. I find this irritating. I admire the man for thinking to do it, it was that important to him.
It's a pleasant surprise to see a topic about one of the lunar landings spill onto a second page without any ass-brained comments about how no one has ever been to the Moon and/or that we live on a flat Earth.
Wow!
“Everyone knows that Christian white men did NOT land on the moon, it was women and muslims that did all the engineering.
“You didn’t build that.”
I could swear I'd read about this years ago right here on FR.
They knew the odds of getting out and making it home was very low. Giving thanks for what they did accomplish seems reasonable to me as it all went ok so far.
Why that wasn't reported is interesting.
Well, I think it was to the big liberal township of Montclair NJ! Buzz Aldrin lived in Montclair. He was our hometown hero along with Yogi Berra. When I was a kid there was a parade up Bloomfield Avenue, the center of town. I have a picture of my dad running alongside of Buzz Aldrin’s car (my dad was a Montclair police officer)A few years back they rename a school after him, Buzz Aldrin School.
Can’t wait to post my newfound news on facebook’s Montclair watercooler group! Exploding heads!!!
As explained in Aldrin’s book: It was kept a secret because NASA had come under fire from atheists during Apollo 8 when they read Genesis from moon orbit.
Political correctness was just getting it’s legs in 1969.
Thank you Fatima. Cool...
Thanks for the mention...
Thats more understandable.
And I was so tempted...
No, I agree and simple logic puts that lunacy to rest for me.
The Earth is NOT FLAT!
The Moon is!......................I see it nearly every night!.............
