Rubio: I Will Fight Trump Declaring National Emergency for Border Wall
Breitbart ^ | 01/27/2019 | Pam Key

Posted on 01/27/2019 12:14:58 PM PST by Rusty0604

Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) said President Donald Trump declaring a national emergency to build a wall on the U.S. Mexico border would be a “terrible idea” and that he would fight it.

RUBIO: Sure. Because I think it’s important. Look I don’t think we will have to fight. I’m not sure they will do that. I know it’s an option they looked at. But now you are at the mercy of a district court and ultimately an appellate court. It may not withstand if you look at some of the other rulings we have seen. The other is the precedent it would set. It’s not a good precedent to set. It doesn’t mean I don’t want border security. I do. I think that’s the wrong way to achieve it. It doesn’t provide certainty. You could wind up in a theatric victory at the front and not get it done. The best way to do it is to have a law that funds border security so we know it’s going to happen.

They don’t want to stop it. Our politicians, even our own party, does not agree with us that this is a problem that needs to be stopped.

Republicans think the economy needs these immigrants in order to function. The GOP’s biggest donors want more immigrants to keep labor expenses down. And Democrats think immigration is the golden ticket to permanent liberal majorities.

So no one in Congress wants to stop this.

That will certainly help the President in negotiations with the democrats. Thanks, bubble boy.

Little Marco is pushing for a big amnesty deal tied to wall funding. So he is undermining other options POTUS may have.

National emergencies by law don’t come under the jurisdiction of the courts

Which law says that?

it would be incredible judicial overreach and should just be ignored with the judge arrested for sedition and treason.

During the Korean War, President Truman declared a national emergency and took over the nation's steel mills. The Supreme Court held his actions unconstitutional.

What’s wrong with these people?
Doesn’t McConnell give his caucus talking points when the appear on these shows? Doesn’t he make it clear what will happen if they stray from the talking points?

Nope. McConnell is only Majority Leader because he is weak. He allows the mavericks to roam and they vote for him to be leader.

There is no way to have a law that funds border security.

Where hast thou been, Rubio?

They still have no clue without Trump they’re dead on the floor.

I won’t be at all surprised if the 4 majority/minority leaders aren’t planning to pick a likely point in the coming fight to, “regretfully and for the sake of the country” get together and start running the country between themselves thus obviating POTUS. Impossible for most of the history of this country but I’d bet on it now...

True. Rubio’s political career is over without the support of Trump voters.

One of the main goals the Mueller Coup was to hamstring POTUS and let Congress dictate the beltway agenda. He got one stinking pile or garbage bill after another from a GOP Congress. I don’t expect it will get any better now.

We left that behind on Usurpation Day, January 20, 2009

How did I know you would say that?

WE KNOW THAT, friend.

Now, are we going to keep repeating it ad infinitum, like some hypnotic command, or are we Americans going to resolve that it NEVER happen again?

Likewise, it is within the prerogative of the courts to issue restraining orders.

No it isn't, not on this issue it isn't. You seem to thingk a District Court has the Authority to amend the Constitution, they don't, not even the Supremes have that right. They may have the ability to effectively amend the Constitution but certainly not the right.

It is his right and has been used 42 times since 1976 when the law was enacted. As far as the courts, Obama appointed judges will knock it down, but the Supreme court should uphold it.

Even here on FR which is supposed to be a conservative site, there are many who would make Anwar al-Awlaki’s kids eligible if it makes their guy eligible.

We’re already being told it doesn’t matter in relation to Harris this time like we were told last time about Rubio, Jindal and Cruz and like we were told it doesn’t matter about Obama.

There simply weren’t enough people that support the Constitution to keep it.

...it is a very close call whether he has the votes to defy any federal court that decides to disagree.

What votes? This isn't up for a vote.

If the President can't stand before the people and assert his plain authority under statute law and the Constitution, the republic is no more.

He (and we) can't MAGA if he's going to bend his knee to the courts every time some lower court judge gets his panties in a bunch.

He (and we) had better start fighting back for real, or quit pretending like we're a free and sovereign people living under a binding constitution.

If we're unwilling to stand up for our country, we need to shut the hell up, bow our cowardly heads, and allow the victors to remake America into whatever kind of country they choose.
