President Trump on Friday sought to defend his decision earlier that day to end the ongoing partial government shutdown without getting funding for his long-desired border wall.
I wish people would read or listen to my words on the Border Wall. This was in no way a concession," Trump tweeted. "It was taking care of millions of people who were getting badly hurt by the Shutdown with the understanding that in 21 days, if no deal is done, its off to the races!
Trump's comments came hours after, bowing to mounting pressure, he announced that he would sign a short-term funding bill to reopen the government without funds to construct a wall along the southern border.I wish people would read or listen to my words on the Border Wall. I am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government, Trump said.
Congress later on Friday easily advanced a three-week funding bill to fully reopen the federal government, hours after Trump agreed to end the shutdown.
Trump's announcement was met with criticism from some conservatives who claimed that Trump had caved amid the more than month-long fight over border wall funding. The government entered a partial shutdown on Dec. 22 amid an impasse between Trump and lawmakers over his demand for billions of dollars in border wall funding.
Trump had said he would not sign legislation that did not include $5.7 billion in funding for his proposed border wall.
Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States, conservative commentator Ann Coulter tweeted.
Trump warned Friday in announcing the three-week funding deal that if he cannot get a "fair deal" by next month the government could shut down again or he may declare a national emergency to sidestep Congress and build a border wall. Such a move would almost certainly draw legal challenges.Good news for George Herbert Walker Bush: As of today, he is no longer the biggest wimp ever to serve as President of the United States.
Well work with the Democrats and negotiate, and if we cant do that, then well do a obviously well do the emergency because thats what it is. Its a national emergency, Trump told reporters later in the Roosevelt Room of the White House.
The Uniparty has sent some fake Freepers to the site. I sure hope Jim gets the old weeder out and cleans house.
Not in our house!
I was just out this last summer at where they filmed that movie.
Its a state park.
I even went over to the motel where they filmed that hot scene.
They asked me if I wanted a room.
I asked them if they had one with a lonely Deborah Winger in it.
Turns out they didnt.
That cost them a star on my review.
“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

I would have felt better if Trump closed the border
totally until he was funded to build the barrier.
You are not alone Tomkat....one either trusts Trumps motives or believes he is a liar.

Unfortunately Trump is teaching the democrats that he is
insincere—he does not mean what he says. Perhaps
he should be more careful in his declarations.
And he should get credit for getting these people their paychecks.

They would have been getting their paychecks if he wasn’t holding out for border wall money.
Trump has 3 weeks to get his lawyers shit together and to mobilize the Army CoE.
As the emergency is declared, the border must close.
Expect some pinko hawaiian Obama judge to stay the emergency, this needs to be expedited to SCOTUS ASAP.
lets see in 3 weeks if it is a total cave.
This was a cease fire to get checks to government workers. In 3 weeks we will see what Trump does.

Not really. Democrats know the GOPe does not support POTUS and in fact hate him every bit as much as they do. They’ve played this beltway kabuki game together for decades. Trump is doing the best he can while playing with an extremely weak hand. It’s that simple.
What I gathered from Hannity tonight (and I think he could have been fed some information from someone in the know) is this:
Dems have been quietly coming to various Repubs saying that they want the wall and want this fight over with and will give the president the votes he needs. Graham’s name was mentioned. These dems got the Repubs to convince the president that if they just have a few weeks with the government open then they’d vote for something he’d sign.
If this is accurate, and a bill that the president will sign actually passes in the senate and house with the help of dems, then Pelosi and Schumer look the fools. If it passes in the senate and Nanzi doesn’t allow a vote in the house, then she looks very bad indeed. It would help the president’s case for national emergency if that happened.
I’m paraphrasing, but that’s what I got out of Hannity’s reporting.
absolutely.
Skip the "spin", we no longer believe it.

For a man as intelligent as Trump, he’s taking a long time to learn that you cannot reason with leftists and you cannot bargain with them. They will take everything you have and give you nothing in return.
How dense are you?
I realize youre Canadian, but you post here often enough to know that our Border Patrol are part of the government workers NOT BEING PAID during the shutdown, given they fall under the DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY.
Now, do you think concern for the Border Patrol might have played a tiny role in President Trumps decision to reopen the government today until the 15 th of February?
I dont know how you could possibly misconstrue his detailed explanation of the reasons for the wall into a concession but thats precisely your position. God help us, if others are as lame.
Hannity also said this in the first half hour of his radio show. Some Democrat Senators supposedly told Trump that they would vote for a border wall. I hope Trump asked if there were at least 7 Democrat senators willing to vote for a border wall. Manchin was the only Democrat senator who voted for Trump’s bill on Thursday.
Hannity suggested that he doubted that there were enough Democrat House members willing to vote for the wall.
Somebody on another thread said that Trump won’t use the emergency declaration (because court challenges would take too much time) but could use a law that said that one of the cabinet secretaries could order a fence be built to stop the flow of drugs. Based on what Trump said today when he said he would sign a bill to reopen the government for 3 weeks, I believe Trump is considering that option because he mentions the drug problems today.
OK Mr Trump, we believe ya instead of our own lying eyes (and ears).
