This reminds me a lot of the “extra week to investigate Kavanaugh” deal. Vote was imminent but was in danger due to flaky Republicans. Forcing a vote would have meant defeat. Squishy pubs made a deal w the Dems to delay the vote for a week to further vet Kavanaugh. Lindsay Graham and even Trump calmly supported it as the base howled (myself included, wrongly)..Dems win blah blah
Similarly here Trump is going along with the compromise-delay. It placates squishy Pubs and reinforces support of his long term goal for a short term sacrifice.
And just like Kavanaugh eventually was confirmed so too will Trump get his way on border security.

Funny how Ann seems to forget that there are THREE branches of government - that the President is not a King; and that it is Congress who holds the power of the purse.

Look Trump warned everybody at mid-terms what would come if the House went to the Dems. Do you honestly think a full win would come now?
He’ll get the best deal he can now...but the fight is not finished by any means.
They can try to run with the claim that he had two years, but the fact that the emergency has increased ten-fold since he took office will prove the courts wrong. And besides, the liberal Judges would have overruled any emergency he’d declared upon taking office. You and I both know that.
You may be describing banzai soldiers in WWII, or Mongol hordes attacking peasant villages, or Spartan armies thousands of years ago. But we're talking about fellow citizens holding Constitutional offices who were elected by their neighbors.
Nobody has any understanding if the opponent has truly gone mad. We're not at the point of neighbor hating neighbor to the death yet, despite what's being written about MAGA hats and Catholic schools.
I believe that Trump felt that Pelosi was going to see reason and bring a compromise to the table. She didn't. Even when she was faced with calls from government workers to negotiate, even when Hoyer said that walls work and are not immoral, even when the TSA started to put our airports at risk, Pelosi was unmovable to the point of actually planning a family vacation to Europe during the whole thing.
I think that's when Trump realized that he's not dealing with a rational person on the other side. I think that's why he's calling for this three-week resetting of the table, so that the Democrats can rein in their wild horses and come back with a plan to negotiate.
The sword of a shutdown is still hanging out there, and the last resort of an emergency declaration is also still in play.
And the people are watching. I'm watching Pelosi right now on TV, and she's smiling like a schoolgirl right now. That tells me that this has been about nothing but her personal power, but I still think that most people will conclude that she's too unstable with it for all our good.

Kavanaugh is a good analogy. I’m still all in for POTUS. But every day my view of the GOP gets lower. I will never understand why the GOP has a political death wish. Trump has thrown them a rope and is trying his hardest to save them but they won’t take it.

Three weeks, that’s all they have, to negotiate. Pelosi not gonna do it. After three weeks, Trump uses emergency funding for border security, gets the wall, and we can all say bah-bye to DACAs. WIN-WIN. Chill, folks.
