Freshman Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was the only House Democrat to vote against a bill to end the longest government shutdown in US history on Wednesday. The liberal lawmaker said she deviated from her party because she didn't want to allocate any funding for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICE), which she called to eliminate during her campaign.

I’ll probably take a lot of crap for this, but AOC is exactly the kind of U.S. Senator we would have gotten if Roy Moore was elected in 2017. Silly, sanctimonious, meaningless votes that are intended to “show principle” and “send a message” but just end up making her look like a damn fool.
She’s the only honest person on her side of the aisle. But she needs to occasionally allow herself the luxury of an unexpressed thought.
Being from Alabama, I wholeheartedly agree with your view on what Moore would have ‘delivered’.
Even if Moore had won...he would have been primaried with another GOP choice in 2020, and likely beaten in the very next election.
That would have been a fine stand to take if the GOP Senate leadership post was being contested, but it was idiotic and disastrous for him because nobody in the GOP was challenging McConnell for that position.
What was Moore going to do -- vote for Chuck Schumer?

I happen to respect the fact that she is willing to be an independent thinker. The country, quite frankly, needs more like that. Don’t misinterpret this as me agreeing with her positions but why get elected on a platform and get yo Washington just to get along? This was just a show vote anyways, may as well do a show vote of your own
