Michael Bloomberg, the billionaire ex-mayor of New York and benefactor of the Johns Hopkins University, said Tuesday its ridiculous the institution doesnt have an armed police force.
*snip*
Johns Hopkins is seeking approval from the General Assembly for a private police force to patrol the university campus in Homewood, the hospital campus in East Baltimore and the Peabody Institute in Mount Vernon.

Kim Jong Un has something similar.
If you live in the inner-city of Baltimore....unless you live in a building with a armed guard presence, you aren’t secure unless you carry a weapon yourself. All of these urbanized regions in the eastern half of the nation are the same. If you have an active police presence (like NY City), then it makes a difference. But there are dozens of areas which simply can’t protect the residents.
Surely you didn't think Mayor "Major Donor" Mike would allocate his donations for this, did you?
Yes, many parts of Baltimore are quite bad. And Bloomberg acknowledges this. But his solution is is a typically elitist one. Provide protection for upper classes only (in this case, a fancy university).
I think he’s been pretty consistent—no guns for peons and lots of guns to protect the non-peons.
The difference is, Un’s police force will take the perp out back and shoot them in the head. Problem solved. Here the perp would be taken to court, fined and released only to offend again.
> Not one single word on how this proposed armed police force will be funded. <
Good point. And wouldn’t it be more effective in the long run to just to build a wall around the university?
Oops! Sorry! Walls are very bad. Bloomberg would never consider that. I should have said: Wouldn’t it be more effective in the long run to make the university a “gated community”?
Liberals aree okay with that terminology.
The university should definitely have a private police force to patrol the property and expel interlopers. Not only that, but there should be a wall with controlled entry points. That way, the students will be much safer. It’s a totally reasonable request.
What’s the point of an unarmed police force. Isn’t that kind of the idea? Sort of like saying “Car with tires” and “House with Roof”? Nice of them to point that out I guess.
Having been to the sprawling campus of the Cleveland Clinic a number of times I’ve noticed they have this.
> Its a totally reasonable request. <
It is. My only beef is the obvious hypocrisy on Bloomberg’s part. Both the university and the surrounding neighborhoods are covered by the Baltimore police.
So the university wants a bit of extra protection. Okay. But what about a lady who works in an adjacent neighborhood? She might like a bit of extra protection too. A CCW permit, maybe. But Bloomberg will flatly deny her that option. Instead, he would tell her to buy a whistle.
I was actually making a point about the nation’s borders...
guns on campus?
give them hockey pucks.
They already have one in of the largest unarmed security forces in Baltimore. The hospital is really in a bad area and has a lot of patrols and a actual Baltimore police substation. The hospital has been buying up whole neighborhoods around it and clearing out the area.
The university is in an area that is still not too bad.
Many public universities do have their own police. I suppose I’m not clear myself as to how they are paid for because they do have full police powers.
Too bad this hypocrite doesn’t run for President as an Independent. He would siphon votes from the Democrat . Trump might even carry California. He really wants to run and has the Presidential bug bad. Unfortunately its likely the Dems will talk him out of running as an Independent.
Awwww his very own SS troop... how sweet!
Its telling that he said this Annapolis, not Baltimore.
You chicken, Mikey?
Say it to their faces.
Tom Clancy wrote about these people in Red Storm Rising.
They were the Soviet Leaders who had their own special well stocked stores to shop in and other perks. Meanwhile the gray, dismal masses suffered with mere survival.
