Nobody should be all that surprised that leftist mobs and their mainstream media allies perpetrated a false story about Covington Catholic schoolboys in MAGA hats supposedly 'mocking' a Native American, followed by a Twitter feeding frenzy that's going to get them a lawsuit. As John Hinderaker notes, the blue checkmarks are now swiftly deleting and scrubbing their Twitter statements in a pathetic bid to avoid getting sued.
MAGA kids, of course, know what the left is like from other incidents, and probably can deal that behavior on some level.
But what isn't good is the embrace of the dishonest narrative from the kids' own school and their own Catholic diocese, falsely condemning them in some amazing public calumny they have yet to retract. It's shocking, actually.

How do you know he was smirking? A camera can be deceiving in terms of the precise moment the picture is taken.
Well the statement is so vague that it invites insinuations. I hope it turns out to be a nothingburger.
” I think that this is a bit of a knee-jerk reaction as well. “
Well, no. The timeline and facts ‘is what it is’.
The still photo looked like a smirk, which isn’t the worst thing in the world but it’s not the best thing in a Christian ministry either. It might have been a very transient thing, though, as a thought which was quickly dismissed.
They can shove the collection plate.....
“Concerning the incident in Washington, D.C., between Covington Catholic students, Elder Nathan Phillips and Black Hebrew Israelites the independent, third-party investigation is planned to begin this week. This is a very serious matter that has already permanently altered the lives of many people. It is important for us to gather the facts that will allow us to determine what corrective actions, if any, are appropriate.”
This is what they did:
1. Issue a public statement condemning the students based on false information.
2. Release the statement to the media.
3. Publicly threaten the students with expulsion.
4. Then, after this is done, announce an outside investigation that is expected to take several weeks.
5. Refuse to admit that the initial public statement attacking the students was entirely based on lies.
Looks like the diocese and the school violated the Commandment that says, “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor” by bearing false witness against their own kids. Oh well, not too much, since so many RC clerics have recently been busy buggering the choir boys and Bergoglio doesn’t seem too bothered by it.
Well maybe people don’t have the same pre-conceived notions as to what makes a good Christian as you do.
I bet these idiots are also supporters of the usurper Anti-Pope named Francis
Dipping into the political left or right is wrong for a church either way. They should go straight down the narrow way with Jesus.
Still, the way this diocese did it, sounds like a DEEP dip into the left. “We do not intend any offense other than the gospel, and we will investigate and carefully ascertain the facts” should have sufficed. Rather than “Oy vey! We offended the left! Throw them a bone!”
Francis is to the Papacy as Barack was to the Presidency
Complain to the author of the book.
Many Catholic schools have been closing, all over this nation, due to the fact that 1) people are having fewer children 2) costs have risen 3)dissatisfaction with the policies of the church and several other reasons. Now? Now parents will fear sending their kids to these schools because of the actions and words of this diocese!
FYI the March For Life(Twitter account) denounced the kids very quickly. They later amended it to say they would wait for more facts(well after the exonorating video was available) but refused to apologize for immediately assuming the kids were in the wrong.
The kids were there in the first place SUPPORTING THEIR MISSION!
They accused the kids of doing something wrong — the very WORST on reliable record to date would have been The Smirk (tm) and that was one kid’s face at one moment. The statement went overboard.
They ought to be going down the straight and narrow way with Jesus. Then there’d be a lot fewer problems with misbehavior in the clergy. Any church has problems when it starts to serve up a main dish of institutionalism with, at most, a small side dish of Christianity.
I agree. There are many who CLAIM to be Christian, but their actions don’t really demonstrate that...easy prey for the enemy. However, I think another factor could be that the satan is also REALLY beginning to feel the weight of the very short time he has left. Jesus IS Lord! :-)
The school was quick to throw the students under the bus based on a picture and a short video.
Now, suddenly, faced with the evidence that the accusers were harassing the students, the school wants to be fair and impartial.
I don't know anything about the bishop of Covington and his past record, but from this incident it appears that he is one of the Catholic bishops who think that the Catholic Church should act as an arm of the Democratic Party and advance the Democrats' agenda (on everything except abortion and same-sex marriage).
It is important for us to gather the facts that will allow us to determine what corrective actions, if any, are appropriate.
Yet, before they knew the facts, they said this:
We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general, Jan. 18, after the March for Life, in Washington, D.C., the January 19 statement read.
We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Churchs teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.
They condemned without facts, but defer an apology until after the facts.
The kid was scared, he decided to just SMILE in the face of extreme danger and that whole "smirk" thing was a MEDIA/TWITTER meme.
The poor child came out and said that he smiled, to try to let the utter lunatic ( my word, not his ) drumming within an inch of his face, that he was "friendly".
