Covington Catholic diocese sticks to its calumny against its kids
American Thinker ^ | January 22, 2019 | Monica Showalter

Nobody should be all that surprised that leftist mobs and their mainstream media allies perpetrated a false story about Covington Catholic schoolboys in MAGA hats supposedly 'mocking' a Native American, followed by a Twitter feeding frenzy that's going to get them a lawsuit. As John Hinderaker notes, the blue checkmarks are now swiftly deleting and scrubbing their Twitter statements in a pathetic bid to avoid getting sued.

MAGA kids, of course, know what the left is like from other incidents, and probably can deal that behavior on some level.

But what isn't good is the embrace of the dishonest narrative from the kids' own school and their own Catholic diocese, falsely condemning them in some amazing public calumny they have yet to retract. It's shocking, actually.

The joint statement of the diocese and the school:

The Diocese of Covington and Covington Catholic High School have issued the following statement: We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students towards Nathan Phillips specifically, and Native Americans in general, Jan. 18, after the March for Life, in Washington, D.C. We extend our deepest apologies to Mr. Phillips. This behavior is opposed to the Church’s teachings on the dignity and respect of the human person.

The matter is being investigated and we will take appropriate action, up to and including expulsion.

We know this incident also has tainted the entire witness of the March for Life and express our most sincere apologies to all those who attended the March and all those who support the pro-life movement.

We condemn the actions of the Covington Catholic High School students

What actions? Did they condemn the actions of the child molesting priests?

It might sound less precipitous if they even mentioned what behavior they condemned. The way it’s put, it sounds like the verdict first, then the trial.

It might be the Smirk (tm) — but there was a boat load of apparently false accusations on the other side too. To draw a false accusation should hardly call for a Christian reprimand.

I think that this is a bit of a knee-jerk reaction as well. Let’s give a bit of time here and see what happens.

That's the joint statement prior to the videos of the entire incident were released.

AFAIK the diocese has not commented on the extended version of events, nor will they with lawsuits against them for defamation pending.

It is unfortunate that the leadership at the Diocese and the High School have revealed that they are spineless fools that deserve to be thrown out on their butts.

That’s a problem with Christians suing Christians in court. The bible frowns on that for a reason. Also it puts a brake on the matter being aired.

Shall secular politics tell Christians how they should behave? Or vice versa?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised, Red. The satan is VERY active these days.

PS Good to see you again. I haven’t been on here much in a loooong time.

This is what is at https://www.covdio.org/ now:

Concerning the incident in Washington, D.C., between Covington Catholic students, Elder Nathan Phillips and Black Hebrew Israelites the independent, third-party investigation is planned to begin this week. This is a very serious matter that has already permanently altered the lives of many people. It is important for us to gather the facts that will allow us to determine what corrective actions, if any, are appropriate.

We pray that we may come to the truth and that this unfortunate situation may be resolved peacefully and amicably and ask others to join us in this prayer.

We will have no further statements until the investigation is complete.

They had transgressed the Unwritten Law.

Yes... a time when Christians are weak is a time when the devil will start in on them. They need to be taught again how to use their victory, and God will do that.

That is the problem of hierarchy type denominations. They have a centralized government which, over time, insulates itself to the people or their needs.

The churches in the time of Jesus time were local. It was ran by local church office holders. This would eliminate this accumulation of wealth and power the Vatican wields.
In the Covington case the local quick-to-judge bishop would be shown the door and the boys would not suffer if ran by NT standards.

The pope is trying to get his flock back by protecting sexual predators, espousing the world over spiritual values, and accepting liberalism in all its glory? Hmmm. Perversion has overtaken Providence in the Church.

What is wrong with the Catholic Church? Pederasty has it covered in scandal. A goofy Pope, with roots in Liberation Theology takes charge of the Vatican. A chancellor at Notre Dame has its art covered so it won’t offend the PC crowd. And now a Catholic diocese will not even support its own students who have been viciously and without reason attacked by an anti-Christian media. Perhaps the Church should take a page from Trump’s book.

The Bible also says “Thou shalt not bear false witness.”

Guess you forgot that little tidbit.

I’m guessing the expectation was that when harassed, abortion protesters would visibly pray (whether as a Catholic with a rosary, or otherwise) and The Smirk didn’t fit the pattern. But these are kids, with an unexpected situation put upon them. A mild private reprimand and exhortation, with a public statement that abortion protesters are taught to pray visibly for their enemies, ought to do at worst.
