Wrote this at the approach of similar weather about 10 years ago, fits to the tune of “Good King Wenceslaus”

Winter’s worst is on its way
Highs well below freezing
Lows in single numbers, too,
And the winds a-breezing.
Time to gather unsplit logs
That can burn six hours
All to warm your cats and dogs
‘Till the springtime flowers.

I toy with the notion of moving further north from time-to-time. This musing and search for property in cooler climes usually takes place in the depths of a brutal Oklahoma summer when it is too hot for the birds to fly and the wind can be more like a blowtorch. Thankfully, I am not in the central and Western part of the state that is more like Kansas or the deserts and high plains of Texas.

When our brief winter comes and I can’t go out the door barefoot in shorts with no shirt, not a pretty sight, but instead bundle against the cold wind and have to put my boots on I look forward to spring and think that the worst part of summer usually only lasts 60 days or so. In about 40 days it will be time to start planting the garden and I will be able to walk to my little shelter at the top of the hill to enjoy another thunder storm roll across the sky.
