I must have lucked out to have worked for 25 years in an outfit who paid us well, with excellent health insurance, Christmas bonuses, 4 weeks paid vacation after 15 years service, and 10 paid sick/personal days every year.
Hardly anyone quit! And the owner knew all 750 employees by their first names! All this without any govt control. Stupid outfits have high turnover rates and go out of business on their own.
So I believe capitalism works best without govt acting like your mother.
Yes, count yourself very lucky. The 60s, 70s, and 80s were good years in Corporate America. Executives still understood corporate responsibility and took pride in being good corporate citizens. That started changing in the 90s ... first with outsourcing jobs overseas and then with insourcing labor from overseas when the outsourcing proved to be ineffective.
That insourcing through H1Bs has been a huge drain on American Society. So many American IT workers were let go just when their kids were ready to start college that it is no wonder so many American kids decided to skip Computer Science altogether.
If you would have watched your dad lose his job just when he needed it to help you with college, would you have followed in his footsteps?
entropy12 is an Indian national POS.
My advice is get out of IT field, many other fields do not face competition from cheaper foreign workers with H1-B visa. My daughter works for a large law firm, there are no H1-B visa lawyers at her job. That is just 1 example. Other daughter is doing cancer treatment results analysis at a hospital. She also has no H1-B visa competitors.
That is merely abdicating control of society to the parasites.
My point is that government should not allow companies to use H1B visas for artificially-lowering the wage scale. I chose not to go into IT because of that depressed wage, and now, those companies want to cry that there are no American Programmers?
Perhaps you may understand when the health insurance companies and hospitals start bringing in H1Bs to offset the expensive doctors and lab techs practicing today.
