Recently, President Trump announced his 19th (yes, nineteenth) round of judicial nominees. The president has not only had two outstanding Supreme Court justices successfully confirmed, fulfilling a key campaign promise, but also has appointed a record number of lower federal court judges. With a new majority in the Senate, these well-qualified nominees should not have trouble being confirmed.
It’s impossible to imagine victories like these without the vision and courage of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Justice Antonin Scalia’s death was not only a great loss, it was a moment of turmoil for our nation that tested the resolve of our leaders. A lifetime appointment to the nation’s highest court is one of the weightiest decisions a president can make under any circumstances, but since the Supreme Court imposed abortion on demand through birth on the entire country in Roe v. Wade more than 40 years ago, millions of innocent lives hang in the balance, along with the right of the people and their representatives to govern themselves.
Twenty-one percent of voters said that the Supreme Court vacancy was the most important issue on their minds going into the 2016 presidential election. McConnell’s proposal was simple and reasonable: let their voice be heard. The challenge was standing firm through the firestorm of opposition from ideologues hoping to see Barack Obama or a future President Hillary Clinton stack the Court with pro-abortion justices, cementing their radical agenda for generations.
McConnell never wavered in his determination to let the people decide the future of the Court, and his instinct that Americans were hungry for change proved correct. The voters overwhelmingly put their trust in President Trump to choose Justice Scalia’s successor; Kentuckians turned out to elect him by a 30-point margin.
Their wisdom – and McConnell’s – was evident when President Trump nominated Neil Gorsuch to the Court. Gorsuch’s stellar credentials should have made him a shoo-in. Instead, the abortion lobby went to unprecedented lengths to obstruct him. Once again, McConnell knew exactly what had to be done and moved to end the filibuster. Now, partisan extremists can no longer hijack the confirmation process to block votes on qualified nominees.
Still greater battles lay ahead. When Justice Anthony Kennedy retired, suddenly President Trump would not only be replacing a passionate constitutionalist, but also shifting the balance of the Court away from dictating policy to the people and toward greater respect for their views.
The bitter fight to confirm Kavanaugh was a wake-up call. The same pro-abortion extremists who obstructed Gorsuch went even further to try to discredit Kavanaugh, exploiting the painful issue of sexual assault to destroy him personally.
Were it not for McConnell’s steady hand, the outcome might have been very different. After both sides had their chance to speak, ultimately it was clear that Kavanaugh deserved to be swiftly confirmed, and pro-abortion Senate Democrats’ obstruction helped cripple several of their vulnerable colleagues’ re-election campaigns.
Leader McConnell has played a valiant role in President Trump’s legacy of reforming the courts. Now with the real possibility of a third Supreme Court vacancy, pro-life citizens can have peace of mind knowing McConnell will never back down from the good fight.
Mitch has redeemed himself in the judicial appointments arena but is still held with suspicion by a great many. Those that eye him suspiciously remember Mississippi.
So many have forgotten that the ONLY reason we have a Justice Kavanaugh instead of Justice Garland (Obamas pick) was because Mitch McConnell stood his ground in the face of overwhelming pressure and at a time there was no hope that McConnell would be rescued from his (practically) suicidal position opposing the then President of these United States.
I maybe need to point out that Kavanaugh was nominated by President Trump, not by Mitch McConnell.

Give the Turtle his due. He’s been good about judges.
Top priority now are the dozen vacancies on Circuit Courts. We need 12 more Strict Constructionists in those positions.
Then we can move on to the 100+ district court vacancies.

I maybe need to point out McConnell does not deserve plaudits for doing the job he was elected him to do. A job that has certainly made he and he family fabulously wealthy.
BTW, how do you feel about the Majority Leader allowing the GOP led Senate Intel committee to openly collude with the treasonous Mueller Coup? McConnell should have reigned in Burr long ago. Yet he has not. Why do you think that is?

I think that may be because McConnell is corrupt in a number of ways.
Why do you think McConnell was willing to commit what appeared to be political suicide to block a vote on Garland for months and months?
I’m a Kentuckian. I have voted for Mitch in every election he has ever run in. He very nearly lost me in the last one. He has redeemed himself when he held the nomination for a year waiting for the next president to make the decision. That took some real courage, I would have never expected it from him. He made a real mark, a real mark indeed that will not be soon forgotten.

Yep - back when Kavanaugh was put on SCOTUS, I pledged to not slam Mitch at least until the New Year - still have no huge reason to bad mouth him.
He’s the reason we have GORSUCH (not Kav) instead of Garland. Big credit also to then Jud. Chairman Orrin Hatch.
But he’s also the reason we have either cause he was willing to nuke that sumbitch fillibuster!
He deserves a medal if you ask me. I find it weird some freepers still hate him. I’m reading posts accusing him of “enriching his friends”, has someone been reading DSCC oppo research?
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, McConnell has been the best, abd most consequential, Republican Senate Majority Leader ever. While I’ve disagreed with some of the things that he’s had to support in order to herd all of those cats, you can’t argue with the results. McConnell has been working for a conservative federal judicuary since the 1980s, and thanks largely to him we’re almost there.
But Impy, while Orrin Hatch does deserve some credit for standing firm after Obama nominated Garland, the Judiciary Chairman at the time, abd someone who deserves a lot more credit than Hatch does, was Chuck Grassley.
Getting the Dems baited into causing the “nuclear” showdown over Gorsuch instead of the next nomination also blew up in their faces - the votes may not have been there for the nuclear option on Kavanaugh in that atmosphere. The Dems were baited into shooting themselves in the foot.
