Nathan Phillips is the Native American Vietnam Vet who many were claiming was attacked and harassed by a bunch of evil, white, Catholic, high school kids in MAGA hats at the March for Life on Saturday. As more information became available it seemed clear (unless you work for CNN) that Phillips was the one who instigated the ordeal and the kids really didn’t do anything.
Good times.
Interestingly enough, a few people on Twitter tried to connect the dots on Phillips’ claims of serving in Vietnam and this thread is especially fascinating. Note, we can neither confirm nor deny any of this is true or correct, but it’s definitely something worth reading through.

Born in 1955.
He would have been 20 when the war ended in 1975 so perhaps when he was drafted at 18 he possibly could have been there in 1973; but the war was slowly winding down then and perhaps the draft wasn’t taking in anymore. It can go either way. Somebody in the VA could affirm.

Mr. Nathan Phillips is affiliated with the Omaha Nation in Nebraska.Mr. Phillips served in the Marine Corps in Vietnam from 1972-76. He arrived to join the White House March from Arlington Cemetery. He had just completed a Peace Pipe ceremony and drumming to honor fallen soldiers. He visited DC from Michigan, where he and his wife are currently residing while she undergoes bone marrow treatment. There, Mr Phillips drumming other activities include participation in the grass dance. He explained that many nations believe the Grass Dance it to be the oldest form of dance in this hemisphere, used to prepare a piece of ground for other activities many years ago. Mr. Phillips presence and blessing — are emblematic of the spirit to hold sacred our regard of the Earth.
“You have to be of sober mind and sober body because you have such a responsibility,” he stressed.
My friend was born in 55 and he tells me he was at no risk of being drafted in 1973.
In a Vanity Fair article last year, he said he turned 64 in February of that year. If my math is right, he was born in 1954.
If he’s 64, he would have ben around 16 or 17 when the Marines pulled out.
About 3 minutes is all it would take to see if he was a Viet Nam vet. And if he was a combat vet, about 2 minutes.
The USMC was no longer in VN in 1973.
