Rand Paul: Donald Trump Pledged to End U.S. Wars in Syria, Afghanistan
Breitbart ^ | Matthew Boyle

Posted on 01/17/2019 3:10:42 AM PST by RandFan

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), a leading ally of President Donald Trump, told reporters in a brief conference call after a meeting with the president on Wednesday that Trump is planning withdrawals of U.S. forces from Syria and Afghanistan and will instead reinvest U.S. resources wasted there in rebuilding the United States.

In Syria, U.S. armed forces have been fighting the Islamic State or ISIS, a terrorist group that once controlled significant territory and resources, but the administration insists that ISIS has been defeated. As such, Trump is moving to withdraw all U.S. forces from Syria.

In Afghanistan, U.S. troops have been at war there for nearly 18 years, since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, making it the longest war in U.S. history. While Paul was nonspecific on the details of the timeline and scope of withdrawal from Afghanistan, the senator from Kentucky said that President Trump did make clear to senators and national security officials on Wednesday he intends to end the war there too.

So tell me that this would be still taking place had John McCain been still alive today.

The media (and perhaps our enemies) still expect our Commander-in-Chief to announce actual current military strategy and/or tactics of the U.S. as they did with Obama and he did not disappoint them. All Trump has to do is pretend to be announcing strategy and/or tactics and then do something else or maybe nothing and BAM!...His strategy and/or tactic to deceive the enemy succeeds beyond anyone's wildest dreams...except for his.

We were not at war in Afghanistan since 9-11, unless you mean clandestine stuff. GWB built up to invade Iraq after 9-11 then started on Afghanistan later. (2003-04, if I recall).

Still, for all the anti-Trump bluster, it would be a great talking point if he were the true “peace president” after Obama just mouthed the words. The Trump-haters would love to make the “warmonger” meme stick when, in reality, he’s been just the opposite. Pulling out of those two theatres allows him to redeploy troops to the southern U.S. border and build the wall as part of the national defense effort.

I still say coordinating a wall on Mexico’s *Southern* border that the Mexican government can eventually run would show that the effort is not fueled by racism, improve Mexico’s sovereignty, create Mexican jobs within their borders and blunt the waves of Central Americans trying to reach *our* border. To those without a map, blocking Mexico’s Southern border would be a snap compared to the U.S. - Mexico border.

We invaded Afghanistan less than a month after 9/11.

Exactly. Trump promised he would end the wars so this is just another promise he has kept which the media will go nuts about

The Left has demanding for decades that we:

Stop the constant wars
Get out of the Middle East
Grow the economy to provide opportunities for the poor
Find jobs for African Americans so they can live the American dream
Heck, the Democrats spent years demanding a wall on our southern border

Obama did none of this. Trump is doing all of this.

They want to impeach Trump.

Incorrect. Paratroopers were jumping into Afghanistan seizing Bahgram airfield about a month after 9/11- B-52s were in action. Iraq came well afterwards

Isis is gone. That is just the Pentagon excuse to stay in Syria forever or until we can overthrow Assad.
Trump is right

I assure you regular units of the US Army arrived in Afghanistan in the fall of 2001. SF first but a real presence quickly built up with a major US air cargo and support base being established in Kazakhstan, I think. I was directly involved in the material support of these operations.

Then we can engage in ‘nation building’ and a quasi war with Hezbollah. The first is what K Street really is interested in. An endless stream of civil augmentation contracts and other general support and much work for the think tank whores. Meanwhile the level of shooting requires real military presence and an endless number of opportunities for command and staff positions in an active theater of operations for the military ticket punchers.
