We are more than two years into the Trump presidency, and his opponents still havent figured out that criticizing absolutely everything he says and does actually doesn't turn people against him. Youd think the president's critics in politics and news media would understand by now that nitpicking him over silly issues makes them look small and petty, accomplishing the exact opposite of attracting converts.
Yes, the White House served burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken nuggets, salad, pizza, and french fries this week to the 2018 national college football champions. Yes, Trump bragged about paying to feed the Clemson Tigers out of pocket (theres a shutdown, you know). Yes, the president exaggerated in his usual hyperbolic way about the amount of McDonalds, Wendys, Domino's, and Burger King served this week and how much it cost him.
Maybe burgers and pizza are not the sort of spread one would expect from the White House. But the Clemson players appeared to appreciate it, and everyone seemed happy. So, who cares, really? The most this incident deserves is maybe an eye roll. Maybe.
But this is the era of Trump, and most of his critics in the news media are nuts, so of course the Clemson dinner has sparked a serious, mostly humorless response from reporters and pundits.

Burgergate.
Impeach the Bad Orange Man.
Its late and now Im hungry looking at that phot of Reagan eating a hamburger. Its too late to go out though.
Aha! There were no girls on the Clemson football team! You see any girls in the pictures? No! This may be a Title IX violation! It shows that the Orange Man is bad!
(Where are my pearls?)
Do you have a Jack in the Box nearby?
Throw on your robe and head for the drive thru!
:)
Burgers a mile high.
Foot Long Sandwiches at Subway are only 11.5 long.
The Toyota Corollas that Hertz rents are called Midsize Cars.
When will the madness end?
Hot dog buns that come 8 to a pack and hotdogs that come 12 to a pack!
It’s madness! Madness! Madness!
This was such a hoot.
Trump, you’re the man!
I just wish Trump would sign en executive order forcing McDonalds to cook their french fries in beef tallow.
One of my favorite stories about the Trump campaign was related in the book “Let Trump Be Trump” where
The book, “Let Trump Be Trump,” is co-authored by former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and deputy campaign manager David Bossie. In it, the two detail a time Trump ordered Nunberg to be left behind at the fast food restaurant because Nunberg’s custom burger was taking too long.
Leave him, Trump reportedly said. Lets go.
Trump was a voracious consumer of fast food during the campaign, according to the book, with restaurants such as McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken topping the president’s list.
Meanwhile, over 30 dems take a pleasure junket to Puerto Rico, to watch a play, and bask in the sun.
Because of the Schumer-Pelosi shutdown, the White House is doing without a kitchen and wait staff, so the President dug into his own pocket and furnished the champion college students a burger and pizza banquet.
Not unlike obama taking people to “five-guys”, or having a “beer summit”.
Irony is not lost on the media.
“Trump paid for it himself so why should they give a rip.”
Only because it’s Trump!
Fantastic move by President Trump!
I’ll bet the kids loved it! Much better then sitting down at a fancy state dinner.
And they can say they shared McDonalds with the President of the US. Wonderful stories.
The president didn’t brag about buying the stuff. He was letting people know that “we, the people” weren’t buying it, he was. An important distinction. If his friends accuse him of lying, bragging, etc., why wouldn’t his enemies?
People love trump because they can relate to him. He loves regular people.
Nobody with any sense eats while on camera. :-)
At one point, he made a pitstop at a McDonald's or Burger King, and the media thought that was soooooo cool.
Burgergate! LOL.
I think the closest we got to a dictator like you're requesting - i.e., forcing businesses to do things - is when we had Bronco Bama in the White House.
If I were one of those kids, I’d have had the president sign the box from my burger!
