Bronx teacher fired over slavery lesson to sue for $1 billion

GARDEN CITY, Long Island (WABC) -- A former New York City teacher who was fired for teaching a demonstrative lesson on slavery announced Thursday she intends to sue the New York City Department of Education and many others for $1 billion.

Patricia Cummings, of Farmingville, Long Island, says a school investigation found that there was no proof that she placed her knee in the back of a student while teaching the lesson.

According to Cummings, she had her students at William W Niles School/MS 118 in the Bronx sit close together on the floor last January to show them how slaves sat on slave ships.

At the time, students said Cummings singled out black students and told them to lie face-down on the floor. The allegations were that at one point during the exercise, she stepped on the back of at least one of the students and said, "How does it feel? See how it feels to be a slave."

She was later terminated due to what the school district called poor judgement.

Why did she single out black students? Why not have every student share in the experience? Present day slavery includes all races.

"See how it feels to be a slave".

...if you lived something like 200 years ago, or somewhere now in the Middle East or Africa, not America. Why didn't she teach how it feels to be a gladiator in a Roman colosseum, because it's just as relevant.

“Only a billion?”

Being a certified teacher she didn’t think it was right to ask for a bajillion dollars.

Teachers should probably wear video cameras like some cops do, to guard against false accusations.

Since Hillary & Obama took springtime to Libya, a billion will buy a lot of slaves at the open air slave markets in Libya where slaves sell for $400 a head.

That'll be a neat lesson about slavery run by Muzzies who have been slave traders ever since Mo Ham Ed, the Profit.

She did not single out black students.

There was a black teacher in the room who has said the lesson was appropriate.

Probably help. As a substitute I’ve learned a lot about government schools. Got thrown out of one school for telling black students they should work. The other day I saw 2 lesbos licking eachother in a public school. I didn’t do nothing. They were just challenging me so they could turn me into their gay principal!

I remain a lonely voice on this forum supporting the notion that lawsuits are not magic. They’re long, difficult and expensive. First off, calling it a billion dollar lawsuit has exactly the same effect as you putting a sign on your car “Used car for sale... $1 billion or best offer.” Second, I only
Know California’s wrongful termination laws.
If these governed this case I’m not at all sure she would win but. If I were a betting man I’d say on these facts she loses this case in front of a jury. Even if she wonwhat she’d get is her lost wages, past and until she could reasonably get a new gig. Punitive damages are not available against public entities. So unless they were paying her a billion bucks a year, this is no big deal

Always has.

In 1776 there were more White Christians (European and American) enslaved by muslims in Africa and ME than there were Black Africans in US.

Some of the largest slave holders in the Confederacy were black.

In some years in the 17th century there were more Irish slaves taken to the English Carribean than Africans.

The muslim slave trade out of Africa dwarfed that of the European and US.

The African & ME muslims colonized, pillaged and enslaved Europeans for 700 yrs before Europeans did their thing.

I will leave it up to the ingenuity of greedy lawyers to determine the damages. Especially when the government damages innocent people’s reputations with false accusations of racism. Which occurs literally, every 5 minutes. This destroys families as well.
