The publisher of USA Today has received a $1.36 billion takeover bid from a media group with a history of taking over struggling newspapers and slashing costs.
MNG Enterprises, better known as Digital First Media, said in a letter to Gannett Co. Monday that its leadership team has failed to show that it can run the company effectively.
The Wall Street Journal was first to report that the hedge-fund backed MNG has built up a 7.5 percent stake in Gannett, and that it has been rebuffed repeatedly by the company about a sale.
Gannett said Monday it received the letter, and its board will carefully review the proposal.

I have a dollar.
Should I buy A paper, or THE paper?
Gannett is super leftist - if they can make a change in that Im all for it. But probably not.
I think you need to research bird ownership numbers first before deciding.
No newspaper can make a profit without classifieds. Thats pretty much proven at this point.
Thank Craigslist for their demise.
I can’t recall the last time I bough a newspaper.
Good idea !
I did check fish market numbers.
However, I did not check bird owners stats.

Well you are doing excellent research, i didnt consider the fishwrap market.
Good Riddance to yet another former traditional conservative American company trying to appeal to their newly brainwashed socialist masses. Enjoy your place in the ashtray of history.
Few deserve destroying more than Gannett
The father of a good friend just passed away and wanted to run his obit in the (Gannett owned) Indy Star since he grew up and worked all his life in the Indianapolis area.
For a 3 paragraph obit...$1200
How about catbox liners?
My wife has to have the Sunday State paper for some reason.
I’d love to see The State razed to the ground and out of business forever.
Amen to that. What a waste of good paper and ink.
“For a 3 paragraph obit...$1200”
local obits are the ONLY thing remaining that the local newspapers have a monopoly on, so they’ve jacked the prices to insane levels ... because they can ...
Every Sunday morning I pick up the “daily worker” from the driveway and see it get tossed in the bin about 30 minutes later.
$1200??????/
How much for a personal ad?.......................
