Sen. Ted Cruz on Sunday joined a growing chorus of GOP lawmakers and other party officials condemning comments Republican Rep. Steve King of Iowa made in support of white nationalism.
"What Steve King said was stupid. It was stupid, it was hurtful, it was wrong. And he needs to stop it," the Texas Republican told NBC's "Meet the Press."
In a recent interview with the New York Times, King who served as the national co-chairman for Cruz's 2016 presidential campaign questioned why words like "white nationalist" are now considered racist.
"How did that language become offensive?" he told the outlet. "Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?"
In a statement issued after the report was published, King rejected the suggestion he is an advocate for white nationalism. He later apologized on the House floor.
Alongside Cruz, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, the only African-American Republican in the chamber, wrote in a recent op-ed that opinions like King's "damage not only the Republican Party and the conservative brand but also our nation as a whole.

The Gospels (at least one of them) say there will be race wars during the Tribulation. (right around that time)
Some are Hell-bent on making it happen. They pound this war drum every day. One day, it’s going to happen and no one will be able to stop it. (insert “The Hunt for Red October” meme now)
The globalists are deeply invested in wiping us out. We must stand and make sure they are defeated in the effort and that globalism is destroyed.
Who likes to say “The Republicans are the party of old white men”? It is said with contempt. They are insulting our fathers and grandfathers. Why are they not made to apologize? How do those contemptuous words sound to those war veterans who survived World War II and Korea?
Ted Cruz has absorbed the brainwashing of the Left.
Didn’t King say the NYT did not tape the interview? How do we know that it was accurate?
Funny how the Black Caucus was able to keep their mouths shut about having Grand Kleigle Robert Byrd not only in the Senate with them but in the same party.
The worst of it is that the Democrats are the most vile, hypocritical and corrupt of the two parties but are always giving sermons to everyone.
The NYT hires people saying whites should live underground and advocating for the deaths of white people. Yet they get to have it both ways.
King stuck his foot in his mouth, badly, this is not acceptable for someone who should know how to talk to hostile reporters by now.
He nearly lost a safe seat because he needlessly courts controversy. He should not run for reelection.
He also admits to another freshman mistake: Participating in a 56 minute interview with the New York Times without taping it. Earth to Steve King: The New York Times is no friend to conservatives. Trust them at your peril.
Of course the racism charges against King are rubbish, but, sheesh. If King survives this politically, and he might not, what does he plan to do to avoid future freshman mistakes?
He said there was no tape, which means that the NYT might not have taped it, and more importantly, that HE did not tape the interview. He should have.
We know that the "white supremacist" quote was accurate because King did not say it was inaccurate. He had plenty of opportunity to do so.
I notice that some threads on this subject don't show King's unfortunate quote, so here it is:
Steve King to the New York Times:
White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization how did that language become offensive? Mr. King said. Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/10/us/politics/steve-king-trump-immigration-wall.html
A nationalist is someone who looks out for their nation first above all others.
That is all that it is.
It does not signify that if you are a White, you are saying your are claiming your race is superior.
When I person is a nationalist in Honduras, they simply want things thy have control over to benefit their nation. I salute them for that. Good for them.
Everyone has a right to love, promote, and look out for their homeland.
When someone says, God bless Honduras, I don’t get angry. Leftists accuse us of saying God only bless the U. S. That’s just nutty.
It’s like saying the Smith family only expects God to bless them, and not the Joneses next door.
Where I part ways with King’s remarks is when he used the term “White Supremacy”. That is different than White Nationalist.
There are brilliant people in every race.
It irritates me when I see Blacks talk of Black supremacy, and yes I have seen it.
This is what I tried to address in the post you addressed your response to.
I agree. And there was something I’d really have been cranky about if I had been on of them.
Their selective outrage is one more reason why I could never morally join the Democrat party.
We are always hearing terms such as racist, white supremacist, nationalist, white nationalist, Nazi being conflated with western civilization. They are often spoken in the same breath. How many times have we heard the term white men referred to in a negative way? The left is trying to make a negative connection in people’s minds with all of these terms. Everything associated with white people is negative. Maybe Rep. King was trying to round up all of these terms and how they are deliberately conflated by the left to make white people loathe themselves.
Rep Steve King is one of the more outspoken people in the House so of course he has a target on his back. The left always attacks anyone who has guts.
The Democrat Party is morally bankrupt. I have read books about Chicago, Los Vegas and Miami Beach, they are all corrupt. I have learned about Baltimore from watching and reading about the Baltimore riots, that city is also corrupt. How many Democrat cities are corrupt?
The Clintons came into the White House and brought a corrupt bunch with them, Obama came into the White House and did the same. The Democrats knew about the Clintons crimes in Arkansas but still protected them till they got into the White House. They were willing to protect the Clintons into the White House for a second time.
Speaking of selective outrage look up CASTROGATE.COM. It is all about Julian Castro and all of the corruption that has been going on in San Antonio. Pass it around.
