While I don't disagree, it's not really our business. Two things struck me.
not only do I have a pistol and a rifle but the process to get them were really easy and smooth
Yes, A pistol and A rifle, one each. Adequate for self defense I suppose, but a world away from the US. I know, our gun culture is evil.
Israelis are far more comfortable seeing people walk around with pistols and rifles than Americans are, if I were to walk around in America like I walk around in Israel I would be stopped by a law enforcement officer.
And yet Americans are more comfortable with gun ownership. As long as the folks carrying are concealed carriers. A bit of disfunction on both sides there.
Ah, so can or should any “citizen” have right to purchase gun? We’ve got that here in the US, sort of. Guess Israel would not want to arm the majority of population that is not Jewish—the Muslims and Christians and others, just out of speculation. The whole gun rights issue will bring into focus the cracks in democracy, equal rights of citizens, and so forth. And what about the occupied areas? Messy. Glad all we’ve got to deal with in the US are places like California, New York, New Jersey, and DC. On the latter, Congress should step in and validate any state-issued CCW to be valid in DC.
Fwiw, EVERY peaceful citizen of Israel AND of the USA should be able to carry any conventional firearm that they CHOOSE to carry.
In almost every case, Israeli citizens have served in the Armed Forces or the various police formations.
(IF they have large numbers of Israeli veterans walking about while armed & who cannot shoot their handgun/rifle competently, perhaps Israel’s armed forces reserve component should be helping the common citizens with their marksmanship.)

“I wish they all could be double-barreled guns.”
Nothing to do with religion. Basically a carryover of Mandate law, lot's of Israel's laws are carryovers from the Brits and Turks. Been liberalized a bit over the years, but without going into details essentially you need to demonstrate need or be a veteran, military or police. And one handgun and maybe one rifle. Neither a culture nor a right as it is in the US.
Don’t forget the full auto bullets.
“Glad all weve got to deal with in the US are places like California, New York, New Jersey, and DC.”
And Connecticut, Maryland, Delaware, then the major areas of certain states like nw Arkansas, Denver, philly, etc.
Things are still ok, but don’t get lulled into a state of acceptance.
OK, we’re missing pix of Israeli girl reservists in bikinis with M-4’s switching across their butts.
Rules......
Its worked very well for Switzerland for almost 300 years.
“Rules’’ Yes. Hear, Hear. What have if we haven’t rules, eh?
They live among people who have no greater desire than to kill all Jews. If they are not going to kick those people out, they should at least arm themselves.
Let's try to keep this thread classy. Anyway...
“Israeli guns laws need to change significantly”
In a country full of Charles Schumers? Good luck.
“Congress should step in and validate any state-issued CCW to be valid in DC.”
Over Schumer and Pelosi’s dead bodies.
And yet Americans are more comfortable with gun ownership. As long as the folks carrying are concealed carriers. A bit of disfunction on both sides there.
Yet we have significant numbers of people, on this forum, complaining about how bad it is for Americans to open carry.
I see ear plug but no safety glasses, Els. Never get away with that in my gun club . . .
