"A $350 toilet powered by worms may be the ingenious future of sanitation that Bill Gates has been dreaming about"
Excerpt:
Worm toilets require no traditional flushing and aren't hooked up to a sewer system instead, worms compost human waste. More than 4,000 such "Tiger Toilets" have been installed to date across India, in homes of people who were previously defecating in the open. The worm toilets smell a lot better than a pit latrine, and don't breed mosquitoes either. Here's how a $350 toilet powered by worms could change the world and save lives.

Here’s a radical idea. How about a three gallon flush toilet?
Could be a good idea for turd world countries.

Like California?
I thought that was called "blogs"?
You provided no link to Business Insider, and your link appears to be bad.
What if the worms decide not to stay in the toilet?
“Could be a good idea for turd world countries.”
San Francisco comes to mind.
Is it Friday night already?
Where does the time go?
Wow, gates really outdid himself there. Ive used those for years on hiking trails.
Id get one and name all the worms after Bill de Blasio.
Then, when I was using it Id yell out,
Here come another one for Willie The Worm!
I have a big barrel in my back yard, it’s called compost
It’s full of all kinds of organic wastes, mostly coffee grounds
I suspect various forms of manure would do just fine
The compost process does slow down a lot in the winter however

So back to the future?
So why are traditional “sewer systems” beyond the capacity of India to construct? In 2019 these people are still taking dumps in fields? This is where all the brainy kids with visas come from who beat out our kids for the open slots in all our universities? Florida is loaded with Indian-named MD’s and other high-end medical field personnel. So what the hell gives with these people, who have to have Gates Foundation billions just to get their s$it together?
Will this technology work for diapers?
Lol... They have had these for years. Not at all a new idea.
That's my question as well. Perhaps the environmentalists don't want them to have traditional sewer systems. Perhaps the future of civilization in these leftists' minds is to return to the dark ages.
Problem is... I some places the ground is all solid rock so a septic tank leach system will not percolate and drain or keep up with the amount of water being dumped into it. Water is another problem, where water is limited normal toilets can use quite a bit of water.
What he is talking about are called Vermicomposting toilets. They are quite common when the circumstances are like above and folks live in remote locations and usually use red worms. they work fine and what comes out is safe for fertilizer.
How about a lack of water to supply sanitation for 4Xs the population of the US, living on territory that is 1/3 the size of the US? If worm toilets reduce disease and provide for a safer environment in which to live, why not. Good on them!
