RBG would have to die in order for that seat to filled. Otherwise, she can be MIA for as long as she likes or needs to, and I see little being done to un-seat her during that time.

Do they vote with one less liberal vote if she can’t return?

And after RBG is Stephen Breyer, who’s 80 years old and also may soon be approaching the age he steps down.

Dems shot their proverbial wad with Kavanaugh and lost. That was amazingly stupid.

This isn’t a strange or lengthy recovery time for surgery to an 86 year old frail woman. I do not believe she will retire.

Let’s start the hearing process anyway so if Ginny pops, the replacement can be installed the next day.

She should retire.

We will see a rerun of the Kavanaugh debacle, if she leaves the court.

Remind all liberals, that elections have consequences. Remind liberals that their icon Obama said that.

And remind them that the president nominates judges to federal courts, under our system. The liberals aren’t going to say that our system of picking judges is wrong, are they?

As long as she doesn't participate in hearing the arguments, she shouldn't be allowed to vote or rule on the case.

Thus, one less liberal vote "should" help America's cause.

If Trump Appointee Replaces Supreme Court Justice It Will Be 'Brutal,'

True statement. Kavanaugh was just a warm-up. The RBG replacement fight will be brutal and ugly. It may even have a body count.

There are not Obama Judges or Trump Judges, judges rule on the law.

why shouldn’t anyone be able to be nominated then?

This confirmation process will show how intolerant the left truly is... televise it all with presidential commentary.

Fox News Harris Faulkner just read news RBG will miss next week at the Court as well.

A very significant point, given the following, FTA:

Ginsburg's absence from the bench has left supporters particularly concerned, as she bounced back fairly quickly from previous cancer surgeries in 1999 and 2009. During both episodes, Ginsburg did not miss a single oral argument . (My emphasis.)

Now, after 25 years on the bench, Ginsburg has brought that streak to an end, missing oral arguments for the first time on Monday. It's not clear whether she will be able to participate next Monday, when another round of oral arguments is set to begin. (My emphasis.)

Looks more and more like the lay person medical prognosis given for RBG by the amateur oncologists here at FR is the right one.

RBG could have retired at the start of Obama’s second term when she was in her late 70s but she gambled that Hillary as the historic first woman president would nominate her replacement. She lost that gamble with no one to blame but herself. What a shame. /s

“Brutal?” I guess in all the Democrats screaming about the sky is falling but the GOP has two more Senatorial seats then when Kavanaugh was confirmed.

Following CJ Roberts’ logic, there are not right or left justices, so the installation of any old justice would have no effect one way or the other.

Just to be safe, I would recommend the most ferocious originalist.

The question everyone should be asking and meming is, “If RGB is too sick to attend this February’s State of the Union address then is she too sick to be working?”

Americans will miss laughing while she sleeps her way through it like the last few times.

“Ginsburg Illness: If Trump Appointee Replaces Supreme Court Justice It Will Be ‘Brutal,’”

It doesn’t have to be long and drawn out.

The Constitution does not require the Senate to hold committee hearings on Supreme Court nominees. That is just tradition.

Send the nomination to the floor of the Senate and schedule a vote. Of course, each Senator should be given a chance to give a speech and state an opinion.

Twenty minutes per Senator should be plenty of time. That’s over 30 hours of talk - much more talking than the Senate did over the holidays when the nation was in the grips of the shutdown crisis.

No one in her condition should be allowed to continue in a Supreme Court Justice position.

She is incapable of rational thought while she fights for her life as the cancer ravages her body.

Most of us have known people going through the process of cancer slowly killing a loved one or friend. They frequently don’t think or act like themselves. Their primary thoughts are about dying and what the cancer is doing to them and that’s only if it hasn’t hit the brain yet. Then all bets are off. They are already gone then. McCain was gone long before his body died.
