Mayor de Blasio announces plan guaranteeing paid time off for workers in the city (new york)

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a plan guaranteeing paid time off for workers in the city.

The plan would require private employers with five or more employees to offer 10 annual days of personal paid time, which can be used for any purpose, including vacation and religious observances.

More than  500,000 full-time and part-time employees currently have no paid time off.

If the plan is approved, New York City would be the first city in the nation to mandate paid personal time off for workers.

“Workers across the nation have been working too hard without enough time to rest and recharge or enough time for family and important life events. Every other major nation recognizes the necessity of Paid Personal Time. We as a country must get there, and New York City will lead the way," de Blasio said.

"To be the fairest big city in America, New Yorkers can't be forced to choose between bringing home a paycheck and taking time off to just disconnect or spend time with loved ones – that choice ends with Paid Personal Time. I look forward to working with Council Speaker Corey Johnson and the rest of City Council on this important piece of legislation.”

The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not mandate paid time off, including paid holidays.

So move your company “headquarters outside the city.

HAH!!!

I'm in a suburb of Seattle, and I received one of those posters from Seattle...you know, minimum wage, etc? They say I'm required to post it for my employees because we do some business in Seattle. It covers Seattle only requirements.

NYC will do no less.

So, small employers have to not only foot the bill for health care for everyone including illegals but also throw money out the window for workers not working.

Convert employees to contract workers or fire employee #5 to stay below the “limit”, in other words fewer jobs...

NY Democrats certainly know how to drive businesses from the cities, and the State. They’ve been doing it for years.

This guy is just so generous. New York, you did yourself proud.

Looking for a mass exodus in the near future. I just wish that Donald would sell his building and leave that clown high and dry and move to Texas.

Small businesses will be laying off that fifth employee.

He’s not guaranteeing it. He’s forcing employers to pay for it.

Not exactly. He's forcing employers and employees to include that in their agreed upon employment arrangement. It could offset other compensation that is currently agreed upon.

So the cost of business for all employers with 5+ employees just goes up, and the idiot mayor pretends for the sheeple that “business” will just eat the additional costs, passing none of it off into what they charge for their goods or services. But the mayor knows better and deliberately fails to tell the sheeple these “gifts” are not free and they can expect their cost of living in NYC to go up to pay for these “gifts”.

I know a retired Union Pipefitter, he said none of the construction trades in Chicago area have such benefits.

He did not know about outside Chicago area.
