Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is ready to tax the rich to make her Green New Deal a reality.
“People are going to have to start paying their fair share in taxes,” the recently elected New York Democrat told TV show “60 Minutes” in an interview set to air Sunday.
Speaking of prior decades’ taxation rates in the country, Ocasio-Cortez added, “Once you get to the tippy tops, on your 10 millionth dollar, sometimes you see tax rates as high as 60 or 70 percent.”
It shouldn’t be a surprise that the avowed “democratic socialist” went with the predictable “tax the rich” formula in order to pay for a massive government program to combat climate change.
But it would hardly be good news for most Americans if Ocasio-Cortez got her way.
In fact, such a scheme would mean that her constituents in New York City would pay a max income tax rate of 82.6 percent, as Americans for Tax Reform was quick to point out. Perhaps New Yorkers deserve what they voted for, but does the country?
Interest in the Green New Deal
While Democratic House leadership has so far balked at the Green New Deal, it enjoys strong support from over 40 members of Congress, per The Daily Caller.
A poll released in December also shows Americans might be more inclined than you’d think to support the plan. The poll, from the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication and the George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication, showed that 8 out of 10 Americans hadn’t heard about it.
But when asked if they would support it—albeit with a very favorable description of the deal that didn’t discuss higher taxes, for instance—81 percent of registered voters said they would back it.

Azzholes like him have become unimaginably wealthy then turn around and support the highest progrresive income taxes in order to keep out the competition. He and many others like him support high income taxes because they alredy have thier wealth. High income taxes help to keep others from becoming wealthy and thus encroaching on their egomaniac elite status. These creeps deserve the fruits if thier socialist efforts. Id love to see how Buffet supports a 90 percent wealth tax.
It seems to me this s the same BS Obama sold America on the lead to the debacles of Solyndra, Fisker Motors, Ener123 and left the tax payers holding the bag for billions lost while Obama’s fat cat corporate buddies looted the government and tax payers.

Has anyone pointed her to the well-established fact that if the wealthy tippy-toppers, had all their wealth impounded, it’d keep the gvt going for about 4 months and wouldn’t be enough to fund a single long-term program?
How about we go Thatcher instead - everyone pays taxes, including the 80% that don’t now. 5-10percent, regardless of whether your income is $16,000 weaving baskets part time or $160,000 - everyone with skin in the game. Eighty percent of the population sitting out on taxes isn’t the way to a prosperous nation.
Question: do you want clean air and clean water and to stop global warming?
Answer: Of course. Yes!
Question: would you mind having YOUR taxes raised by 10% or 20% or even 50% to get that more habitable planet you said you wanted?
