Yeah, the federal worker that's usually holding the net at the bottom of the cliff wasn't there so she died.

This article leads with such a preposterous supposition that the deaths are caused by the shutdown, I had to go to it just so I could get info to post it here.

Normally I would never click on Washington Compost. I might actually consider using their print publication for toilet paper, but I don't want to get ink on my butt.

What nonsense. Dozens and dozens of people die in America’s National Parks every year. I know, I live near four of them including Yosemite.

...a 14-year-old girl fell 700 feet to her death at the Horseshoe Bend Overlook...

Why did she do that? And why wasn't someone there to catch her? Pelosi's fault.

I have not heard any federal workers complaining about spending extra time with their families.

The only people who are upset about the shut-down are left-wing so-called journalists and garden-variety demoncraps.

“National Park Service spokesman Jeremy Barnum said in an interview that a total of seven people have died in national parks since the shutdown began. Officials believe that four of the deaths were suicides, he added. An average of six people die each week in the park system, he said, a figure that includes accidents like drownings, falls, and motor vehicle crashes, natural causes such as heart attacks and suicides.”

Read that carefully because the “journalist” will not draw the conclusion for you.

National Park deaths went DOWN during the government shutdown.

Many, many more, just read Off the Wall: Death in Yosemite by Michel P. Ghiglieri, or Over the Edge: Death in Grand Canyon by the same author to get an idea. There is also a book about deaths in Yellowstone Park too.

What about the guardian angel ranger assigned to each person who enters a park? That ranger wasn’t there to hold the hands of these unfortunates. If only Orange Man hadn’t shut the parks down, your own Personal Guardian Angel Ranger would be there to protect you.

It is foolish to risk one’s life -( and let’s transfer the parks to their states to oversee, anyway. The fed govt has zero business operating parks)

Yosemite, Sequoia, Kings Canyon and Death Valley National Parks. All nearby to me. Several deaths in each one of them every year.

I took the north route out of Yosemite’s western side one time. Garmin was NOT amused. It would have been killer on a Harley.

There are approximately 160 deaths per year in our National Parks, or 3+ deaths per week, on average. For the #FakeNews media to pretend that any accidental deaths during the shutdown should automatically be attributed to lack of staffing is simply asinine. Countless millions of people visit the National Parks, and a very tiny percentage die in accidents, whether or not there is a "partial govt shutdown" going on.

How Many People Die in National Parks and How?

Yes, the statistic should be put against the number of fatalities that occur in spite of the Parks being attended by Rangers. Millions of people visit National Parks and Monuments every year. I just imagine that a few deaths occur as a consequence of those visits.
