Liz Warren Picks a Fight With Trey Gowdy Over Lobbying. He Had a Quick Response.

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is used to sparring with the best of 'em in Congress, so he had no problem clapping back at Sen. Elizabeth Warren's (D-MA) attacks on Twitter Friday. Warren, who recently announced her plans to run for president in 2020, for some reason picked a fight with the now former representative over his career change. Gowdy recently announced his plans to work for Nelson Mullins, a South Carolina-based law and lobbying firm. He had previously worked at the firm until 1994.

Aha! Sen. Warren said on Twitter (paraphrasing).

.@TGowdySC foamed at the mouth with power in Congress, then retired because he claimed he didn't enjoy it. Now it’s clear: Trey Gowdy just wanted a fat lobbyist paycheck. That should be illegal. https://t.co/mxnxaufvgU— Elizabeth Warren (@ewarren) January 4, 2019

Warren used the opportunity to call for "a lifetime ban on lobbying for members of Congress." That way, the likes of Rep. Gowdy and former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) can't use the guise of public service "to enrich themselves."

Gowdy corrected her, while simultaneously mocking her recent Instagram video in which she answered her fans' questions while cracking open a beer.

.@ewarren I’m not lobbying. Not now. Or ever. Perhaps you were cracking open a beer when that was announced. Don’t mind your criticisms. Just be more sensitive to facts.— Trey Gowdy (@TGowdySC) January 4, 2019

Gowdy was pleased to make the announcement about his return to Nelson Mullins on Thursday.

“I am very excited to join Nelson Mullins, a firm with a rich, deep, and diverse team of talented attorneys and a reputation for excellence in all facets of the law,” he said in a statement.

As some noted, Warren's breathless exposé is really a non-story.

Uh, Gowdy is a lawyer. He's returning to the law firm where he worked prior to being in government. There's no indication he'll be a lobbyist. So the story is really just Former Congressman Returns To Day Job https://t.co/vcmtOQGkU9— Lachlan Markay (@lachlan) January 4, 2019

Thanks and happy new year!

Except indeed this is how his firm is described:

“Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP is a U.S. law firm and lobby group based in Columbia, South Carolina. In 2018, the American Lawyer ranked the firm as the 87th largest law firm in the nation based on 2017 gross revenue. It is the largest law firm in South Carolina, according to a S.C. Lawyers Weekly Survey.”

Highly unlikely that Mr. Gowdy won’t be trading on his contacts in Congress and at the federal level generally. (And yes, Warren is scum.)

You might try to be more concise by reducing the amount of redundancy in your statements.

I think you can just say Nooo Yoke City without subject, verb or object and you have conveyed that a complete comprehensive logical thought is already precluded.

Especially with the now minority party which became the minority party in the usual way - they earned it. Hope it all works out for our good friend Trey. He actually did bugger all and deserves the rich rewards of his service.

There should be a way to monitor the wealth status of these ‘congresspeople’ during their service.
Nothing brings in more ‘contributions’ than the chair of a committee.

Gray Beaver is hell bent to pass Hilliary as the most unpleasant woman on earth! She is so unlikable AND unlikely to be the Rat’s nominee. She is doing it for the campaign donations.
Like all demonrats, she projects her own plan to Trey Gowdy’s “return to lobbying.” He is an attorney and not a lobbyist but that fact doesn’t interfere with Warren’s projection.
