Turkey seeks 'major' US military assistance in Syria: WSJ
Al Jazeera ^ | 01/05/2018

The substantial request for military support included air raids, logistics and transportation so Turkish forces could finish off the remaining fighters of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL, also known as ISIS) in Syria, senior US officials were quoted as saying by the WSJ on Friday.

"The Turkish requests are so extensive that, if fully met, the American military might be deepening its involvement in Syria instead of reducing it," the newspaper reported.

The unidentified American officials told the Journal there was little chance Washington would agree to Ankara's requests in full.

US President Donald Trump announced on December 19 his plans to withdraw US troops deployed in northern Syria following a telephone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkey and the US appeared to agree to coordinate the troops' withdrawal from the area to avoid a power vacuum that could attract a number of parties interested in filling it.

It’s not our role. Turkey can spend its own money on their problems.

And Obama decided to let ISIS ship billions of dollars of oil to fund their operations through Turkey to avoid environmental damage.

Russia then targeted thousands of oil tankers and ended that.

The U.S. can provide most military assistance anywhere in the world at moments notice. “Boots on ground” and planting the flag in Syria permanently is unnecessary and serves very little American purpose.

Turkey is a NATO nation - I’ll bet the Germans and the French would do a dandy job for them.

Turkey told us to take a hike in the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Payback is a medevac.

Arm. Training. No. That’s how ‘’mission creep’’begins. Going on almost twenty years of this non stop warring in these Middle Eastern sh!t holes. Enough. For Gods sake enough.

Stay out of it completely. Almost twenty years of warfare in The Middle East . Ok , Saddam is gone, Great. Afghanistan? Nuke the place or just plain get out. And what is Syria to us? I don’t give a rats behind about Muslims killing each other. I’m tired of seeing our young men and women coming home in body bags. Coming home with broken bodies and broken minds because they’re fighting for Middle Eastern satraps.

Tell Erdogan that if he needs help, he'll need to repair Turkey's relationship with Israel, a relationship that Erdogan broke. He won't do it, of course. He asked for our pullout, he's got it. And it sobered him up something fierce as his allies' (the other two amigos) masks came off. It sobered up our EU "friends" as well. Thanks BenLurkin.
