The city of Boulder, Colorado thought it was going to make a firm stand against so-called assault weapons. It passed a controversial law that banned them inside the city.

Take that, gun owners!

Well, it seems that there are a lot of people in Boulder who aren’t remotely interested in rolling over and playing dead in the face of a tyrannical local government. Instead, they’re hoisting their middle fingers in a universally understood gesture of defiance. Metaphorically.

The mayor of Boulder will go on TV and bellow,

“YOU’RE ALL UNDER ARREST!!!”

Yes, they’re liberal gun owners. And they gave Boulder the proverbial middle finger.

Question. Suppose a Boulder resident went to a Colorado gun store outside of Boulder to buy an AR. Would he be denied because of his residence? Would Boulder be informed of his purchase?

Its irrelevant because of the state preemption law.

Municipalities cannot enact a gun ordinance stricter than the state law.

When a law is passed that is unenforceable or that will likely be defied, you cause honest people to cross a line they might not have otherwise. For them, they have psychologically crossed a line of illegality. Tentatively and innocently at first, but a slippery slope nonetheless. Legislation, especially in sensitive areas like this, should be undertaken judiciously and with temperance. Laws passed recklessly without serious consideration undermine respect for the rule of law.

Great writing.
“Current owners were given until the end of the year to choose one of two options:
get rid of their semiautomatics by moving them out of town,
disabling them,
or turning them over to police,
or apply for a certificate with the Boulder Police Department

AS they should be.

What do you think we HAVE those guns for in the first place.

I have two words for writing of such poor quality: “sophomoric and not well thought out at all”.

The other problem with such laws like this is what happens when law enforcement insists on enforcing an illegitimate law?

Who gets held to account when someone dies because the police enforced an illegal law?

...the state preemption law.

That's going to be one of the first things to go in this session.

What rule of law?

That’s something we haven’t had for some time.

Fraudulently documented foreigners are assisted in flouting our laws by our government officials.
