If they don't run out of fuel they may get here just in time for hurricane season.

“He said Sahand, a newly-built destroyer, would be one of the warships. Sahand has a flight deck for helicopters and Iran says it is equipped with anti-aircraft and anti-ship guns, surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles and has electronic warfare capabilities.”
It also hosts a landing deck for Tomahawk missles and can function under water, ‘cause that’s where it’s gonna end up if they keep screwing around.

It would be delicious if they got too "close" to our territorial waters, and we had to board their boats and detain their sailors...make them kneel on the deck with their hands clasped behind their heads, prisoner style, while we take propaganda photos of them.
You know, like they did to us in the Persian Gulf.

Do they have any experience operating their fleet units for up to 5 months at a time? Given they've always operated relatively close to home I doubt they've ever had cause or need to practice underway replenishment. I wonder where they've made arrangements to make port calls for food, fuel, spares, etc.
The Persian Gulf is not a great operating environment for US SSNs...however, if/when they venture out into more blue water, that's the SSNs playground. They'll face a threat in it's natural environment, though I'm fairly certain they'll never know it, unless one of our subs is ordered to rattle their chain a little...

If we insisted on war in the middle east, Bush should have taken out Iran, the root of terrorism all over the world.
