The governor of Mexico's southern state of Oaxaca is condemning the slaying of a local mayor shortly after he took office.
Gov. Alejandro Murat confirmed the killing of Tlaxiaco Mayor Alejandro Aparicio Santiago via his Twitter account Tuesday. He promised a thorough investigation and said a suspect was already in custody.
The state prosecutor's office said in a statement that Aparicio had just been sworn in and was headed to a meeting at city hall when an unknown number of gunmen opened fire at him. He was taken to a hospital, but died there later.
Four other people were wounded in the attack.
Tlaxiaco is the hometown of Yalitza Aparicio, star of the film "Roma." It was not immediately known if she was related to the victim.
Round up the usual suspects.
Eh, no problem. Just swear in the second place runnerup. Unless of course he was the one who instigated the murder. Unless of course the second place runnerup took the hint and has left town.
He must have said something the drug cartel didn’t like.
Actually, I saw a mob kill a man in the main square [zocalo] ... some time ago.
He might have had ties to the gang which opposed the shooters gang. Free money makes people Cuhrazy..
Bunny, you surely do get into some dangerous situations. Be careful and take care in 2019. We need you here.
Thank you.
I’m a big fan of Mexico but I avoid the beaches. I happened to be in Oaxaca staying at a favorite hotel in the zocalo. I was sitting at a table and there was a demonstration. People came swarming by writing all sorts of slogans on the walls [all of which were painted over overnight] ... they were chasing a guy in the crowd they said tried to steal their money. By morning it was said they had killed him.
Yeesh!
No kidding
That's what most politicians do so it probably was the mayor.
There were 100s chasing him... or so it looked. But everyone is poor in Mexico. Or most in that part of Mexico.
And the Dems want these treacherous critters in our country. How many of our officials will be gunned down when they decide to enforce our drug laws?
Sounds like you are the most fearless FReeper here lol.
It’s the Mexican version of “Appoint a Special Prosecutor” when the ‘wrong’ person is elected president in the USA.
Sounds like it’s not a rare occurrence down there.
I heard a statistic that less than 2% of murders in Mexico result in the arrest of a suspect
That almost makes it a sporting event.
Precisely. This is what dems and Never Trumpers want to bring here
Gee what a great thing to be a fan of. /s
