Gun Owners Don't Seem Eager to Comply With New Jersey's New Magazine Ban
Reason ^ | December 20, 2018 | Jacob Sullum

Thanks to a December 5 ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd Circuit, New Jersey's ban on gun magazines that hold more than 10 rounds took effect on December 10. By that date, all owners of heretofore legal "large capacity magazines" (LCMs) were required to surrender them to police, render them inoperable, modify them so they cannot hold more than 10 rounds, or sell them to authorized owners. Those who failed to do so are guilty of a fourth-degree felony, punishable by a maximum fine of $10,000 and up to 18 months in prison.

How many of New Jersey's 1 million or so gun owners have complied with the ban by turning LCMs in to law enforcement agencies? Approximately zero, judging from an investigation by Ammoland writer John Crump. Crump, an NRA instructor and gun rights activist, "reached out to several local police departments in New Jersey" and found that "none had a single report of magazines turned over." He also contacted the New Jersey State Police, which has not officially responded to his inquiry. But "two sources from within the State Police," speaking on condition of anonymity, said "they both do not know of any magazines turned over to their agency and doubted that any were turned in."

We passed the tipping point long ago. That is why they hate President Trump so much. He has (at least temporarily) tried to get back on an even footing. SWMNBN Would have completed the Libs dream of a Communist country.

Bingo!

That’s the key to tolitarianism in a nut shell. Everyone is a criminal and those with power exercise it by deciding who to not prosecute.

Maybe the folks who owned any just blocked them to 10 rounds..?? There actually are responsible people left in the world..

That makes you one of the sheeple, it doesn't make you responsible.

They will never go door to door confiscation.

Laws like this are designed to be selectively enforced. Find a few, crush them & destroy their lives for a single mag. Make this process very public.

So what are you going to do? Are you going to carry your gun with the banned mag? Use your gun in a righteous self defense shooting and you will get 10 years for protecting yourself with the banned mag. Keep your mag at home. Big deal. You ever use it your life is over.

It’s all intimidation to keep the masses in line. Fear of, not respect for, the law is how this plays. SOP for despotic regimes.

There’s definitely non-compliance here, but I can also tell you with certainty that there’s a good number of firearms owners who aren’t even aware of the new law, innocent law abiding gun owners who were turned into felons over night.

I was a part of the ct patriot scene, both mainstream (ccdl) and underground. I saw what i needed to see in order to turn my back on the entire state.

"Do not insert more than 10 rounds at a time."

I like it! Sort of like the "Gun Free Zone" signs. They must work too. ;o)

“Anti-gun laws are a form of liberal virtue-signaling.”

That’s not their primary intent. These are actually political targeting laws. The left is in control in these states and when they run into opposition, either from the grass roots, a politician or in business, they pull out one of these laws to go after their opponent. That helps to entrench the law by associating it with a “bad” person, and it further undermines and distorts the “bad” person’s political speech. So if a 2A supporter speaks out (or Biblical Christian, conservative), they might have some guns and illegal magazines at home?

We need to make an “example” of this person, so we “ throw the book at them”. This is straight up government tyranny at its worst. Selective enforcement against political opponents. Sadly, that is the new foundation of our judicial system. It needs to be resisted by jury nullification.

“It needs to be resisted by jury nullification.”

The jury will be composed of anti-Bill-of-Rights leftists.

It needs to be resisted by circulatory nullification.

[...modify them so they cannot hold more than 10 rounds...]

Just have the other 5 rounds identify as broad heads.

Did they run out of criminals in New Jersey and have to resort to creating them?
This is an illegal law.

I’d heard that they did NOT add a law enforcement exemption in this law. They can carry standard capacity magazines while on duty, but must download when they get off shift.

“Gun Owners Don’t Seem Eager to Comply With New Jersey’s New Magazine Ban”

They’re complying, like it or not. They’re no longer buying the larger mags, they’re not taking to the range, if they’re smart they’re not leaving them in guns for home defense.

In fact, the only 2 things the large mags are good for is a total doomsday scenario, when all of society breaks down and there are no cops to examine magazine capacity.

In other words, they won.
