It never ceases to amaze me how the populist Right, or what speaks in its name, overestimates its strength both here and in Western Europe. One neednt be an enemy of these activists to recognize the exaggerated nature of their claims.
Those in the media who now demand a border wall insist that the people want this goal achieved immediately if not sooner. In fact, according to Ann Coulter, Trump scammed the American people by not giving them the wall theyre clamoring for. But according a nationwide poll by The Hill, 51 percent of American voters oppose Trumps project, while only 49 percent endorse it. Other poll results indicate even more widespread resistance to Trumps border wall. Meanwhile, as many as 80 percent of those polled wish to legalize DACA residents, and presumably they arent making their stand contingent on building the wall, as Trump is.
Equally misleading is the happy talk coming from French and German populists who seem to believe they can give the people a real voice by holding referenda. One devotee of the Rassemblement National (the new name for Frances Front National) wishes to follow Switzerland and Croatia, which hold referenda on important political and economic questions. The problem with referenda is that theyre not much of a check on regular party politics...

Yet another swamp dwelling war mongering Neocon.
Meanwhile, as many as 80 percent of those polled wish to legalize DACA residents80 percent?? Yeah, real credible there.
Besides violent criminals, is there any group of illegal aliens in the USA you would not give Amnesty?
Re: “He knows it is not possible to deport 2 million people, so best to give them legal status so they can work and pay taxes.”
I disagree.
If Trump enforces existing immigration law - like Universal E-Verify - 90% would self-deport.
Democrats, of course, can stick to their favorite hymn, The Internationale as they pass the graveyard.
Just as I suspected. A typical egghead academic. Hasn't lived a single day in the real world in over a quarter century.
Re: “We all know Trump got less than 50% because of illegal votes.”
Since everyone at Free Republic agrees that we are completely helpless against illegal voters, what difference does it make?
Not true. They stole it.
Take away their jobs and government freebies, and all 40 million will self deport tomorrow.
Save it, Gottfried. It was a large portion of the center that doesn’t care for the crap you’re peddling.
They didn’t steal 40+ seats. Get real.
Re: Two different Free Republics
My first trip to Free Republic was election night in November 2000.
That night, everyone here was talking about voter fraud in Florida.
Eighteen years later, in November 2018, Free Republic was still talking about voter fraud in Florida!
Even Trump gave up on voter fraud in 2017, when he disbanded his much heralded Voter Fraud Commission.
Right. But NO republican ever has overwhelming support in any election. At least according to media and polls.
So Trump fits right in there just as he didn’t have enough support to win the last election.
Wall needs to be built and immigration is an issue as well as illegal immigration. People who suppport Trump see what is happening in their communities. It’s problematic when every single Institution supports the Left Agenda with no opposing side.
You have not given up on voter fraud?
Name one substantive action that you or anyone in the GOP leadership has taken in the last eighteen years to stop voter fraud.
The demographics here have changed too.
I guess that was the point of Kennedy’s Immigration Act. And LBJ’s Great Society.
I never claimed they stole every seat they won, but I do believe they stole enough to retake the House.
It was an ‘in your face’ nation wide vote fraud effort by the rats. Coordinated. Fraud and illegal alien voters played part in every ‘win’.
Paul Gottfried is a paleoconservative. He is not a neocon or a freetraitor.
