It’s official: A Woodstock 50th anniversary concert is coming to the original site of the 1969 music festival in Upstate New York next year.

The Bethel Woods Center for the Arts confirmed Thursday that it will host a three-day event on August 16-18, 2019, titled “Bethel Woods Music and Culture Festival.” The “pan-generational music, culture, and community event” will celebrate the golden anniversary of the original Woodstock concert with a series of concerts, “TED-style talks,” and a “We Are Golden” history exhibit at the Museum at Bethel Woods.

"Fifty years ago, people gathered peacefully on our site inspired to change the world through music. As the stewards of this historic site, we remain committed to preserving this rich history and spirit and to educating and inspiring new generations to contribute positively to the world through music, culture and community,” Bethel Woods CEO Darlene Fedun said in a statement.

Thanks for the post. I'm Catholic and a music player/lover, so I wouldn't have been there to have Protestants read the bible to me. I went for Metallica, The Chili Peppers, Dylan and a lot of the other great bands.

Yep, I remember the cold front that came in and the stupid techno-raves that kept everyone awake all night.

Oh i see, so you think we reading the Bible to them, and that as a Catholic you prefer the likes of The Red Hot Chili Peppers . Thank you for confirming our evangelism for Christ was needed.

The one festival I went to like this was the 1983 US Festival at Glen Helen Regional Park near San Benardino, CA.

Was stationed in Camp Pendleton at the time with the Marines and a few of us went to the festival which was on Memorial Day weekend I believe. We all got four day passes (called a "96") to attend and our unit CO threatened us with drug tests when we came back.

So we packed a trunk full of beer and booze and headed out. We brought sleeping bags and slept out on the ground by where the cars were parked. We were a pretty grungy lot by the time the shows were over. It was no Woodstock in that everybody behaved for the most part and there were plenty of food and water. On the second day, I got to see Steve Wozniak up close as he passed right by us with an entourage of press.

Highlight of the three days was the Scorpions/Van Halen sets on the second day - David Lee Roth was falling down drunk but still put on a typical VH show - and then the U2/Stevie Nicks/David Bowie finale on the third day. Lot of good bands in between.

I can still remember the smell of the mud as we trampled through it on the last day. Pretty rank. Was glad to get back to base and take a long hot shower.

Nice to do once for the experience but I'd never do it again.

Don't be and you didn't mistake it at all. And you're right. I would MUCH (much, much) rather listen to the Chili Peppers and Bob Dylan than any protestant evangelist any day of the week. Sundays too. Sundays especially.

Then you would not like what is celebrated in Heaven, nor would the liberal social activist Chili Peppers either, but that leaves only one other place, and which is where most of the music of this world comes from. But which will not comfort any there.

1 My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.

2 When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
in ev'ry high and stormy gale
my anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.

3 His oath, His covenant, His blood
support me in the 'whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way
He then is all my hope and stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.

4 When He shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in Him be found,
dressed in His righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.

In case you didn't read my first post to you, I'll say again I'M CATHOLIC. Hellloooooooooooo!

I don't take religious council from heretics and I have hundreds of years of beautiful liturgical music at my disposal. If you think listening to secular music and having fun at concerts makes you the devil, then you're weak in your mind and soul. Some of us aren't.

And if you truly believe in his BLOOD then you believe in transubstantiation as he commanded, but you don't, so we really don't have much to talk about regarding religion.

We can still be friends on the forum. I mean that.

You are in good company!

"One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours."

--Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215)

I don't take religious council from heretics and I have hundreds of years of beautiful liturgical music at my disposal.

Or of Early Church Fathers; it seems.

As regards the oft-quoted Mt. 16:18, note the following Early Church Fathers promise in the profession of faith of Vatican 1:

 • Basil of Seleucia, Oratio 25:

'You are Christ, Son of the living God.'...Now Christ called this confession a rock, and he named the one who confessed it 'Peter,' perceiving the appellation which was suitable to the author of this confession. For this is the solemn rock of religion, this the basis of salvation, this the wall of faith and the foundation of truth: 'For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Christ Jesus.' To whom be glory and power forever. — Oratio XXV.4, M.P.G., Vol. 85, Col. 296-297.

Bede, Matthaei Evangelium Expositio, 3:

You are Peter and on this rock from which you have taken your name, that is, on myself, I will build my Church, upon that perfection of faith which you confessed I will build my Church by whose society of confession should anyone deviate although in himself he seems to do great things he does not belong to the building of my Church...Metaphorically it is said to him on this rock, that is, the Saviour which you confessed, the Church is to be built, who granted participation to the faithful confessor of his name. — 80Homily 23, M.P.L., Vol. 94, Col. 260. Cited by Karlfried Froehlich, Formen, Footnote #204, p. 156 [unable to verify by me].

Cassiodorus, Psalm 45.5:

'It will not be moved' is said about the Church to which alone that promise has been given: 'You are Peter and upon this rock I shall build my Church and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.' For the Church cannot be moved because it is known to have been founded on that most solid rock, namely, Christ the Lord. — Expositions in the Psalms, Volume 1; Volume 51, Psalm 45.5, p. 455

Chrysostom (John) [who affirmed Peter was a rock, but here not the rock in Mt. 16:18]:

Therefore He added this, 'And I say unto thee, Thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church; that is, on the faith of his confession. — Chrysostom, Homilies on the Gospel of Saint Matthew, Homily LIIl; Philip Schaff, Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers (http://www.ccel.org/ccel/schaff/npnf110.iii.LII.html)

Cyril of Alexandria:

When [Peter] wisely and blamelessly confessed his faith to Jesus saying, 'You are Christ, Son of the living God,' Jesus said to divine Peter: 'You are Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church.' Now by the word 'rock', Jesus indicated, I think, the immoveable faith of the disciple.”. — Cyril Commentary on Isaiah 4.2.

Origen, Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew (Book XII):

“For a rock is every disciple of Christ of whom those drank who drank of the spiritual rock which followed them, 1 Corinthians 10:4 and upon every such rock is built every word of the church, and the polity in accordance with it; for in each of the perfect, who have the combination of words and deeds and thoughts which fill up the blessedness, is the church built by God.'

“For all bear the surname ‘rock’ who are the imitators of Christ, that is, of the spiritual rock which followed those who are being saved, that they may drink from it the spiritual draught. But these bear the surname of rock just as Christ does. But also as members of Christ deriving their surname from Him they are called Christians, and from the rock, Peters.” — Commentary on the Gospel of Matthew (Book XII), sect. 10,11 ( http://www.newadvent.org/fathers/101612.htm)

Hilary of Potier, On the Trinity (Book II):

Thus our one immovable foundation, our one blissful rock of faith, is the confession from Peter's mouth, Thou art the Son of the living God. On it we can base an answer to every objection with which perverted ingenuity or embittered treachery may assail the truth."-- (Hilary of Potier, On the Trinity (Book II), para 23; Philip Schaff, editor, The Nicene & Post Nicene Fathers Series 2, Vol 9.

We agree that Jesus told His disciples, "This is my blood...", but we Prots find it a bit hard to believe He meant it LITERALLY, for you see; all of His blood just happened to still be in His body.

Also; when Thomas; the doubter; had plunged his fingers into Christ's wounds, Jesus did NOT tell him to lick his fingers to get the FULL effect of His blood.

On your home page there is a picture with chubby, healthy-looking children with wings.

What ARE those??

“The Solid Rock” — one of my favorite hymns, along with “A Mighty Fortress” and “No Other Plea”. Lots of good theology in them. So deep compared with the cheap, vapid contemporary “Christian” stuff that’s been polluting us for the last 20+ years.

"This is my blood...", but we Prots find it a bit hard to believe...

There it is in a nutshell... thank you for pointing out exactly where it all goes so wrong. Ya'll like to read scripture - then READ where Christ first talks about eating His flesh and drinking His blood. He's not ambiguous. It's not a parable. He's not making a suggestion... He's commanding... many walked away. Modern Protestant are *them*. You even told me that yourself, right here on this page.

Also if you're into Protestant apologetics, posting writings from saints telling you that you can't be saved outside The Church is highly contradictory. Those saints, who live in heaven, are speaking to YOU... literally from God's lips to your ear.

Despite you making fun, I'll indulge you; those chubby healthy looking children are called "cherubs." They represent the angels that accompanied Christ during the Ascension. Catholics are allowed to paint angels, some prots in their limited understanding call that "idol worship." It's asinine, but they do.

And I don't even want to repeat what you said about Thomas (it's truly bizarre) but the Last Supper was the very first LITURGY. He asked us to do that for all time, and we do.

I appreciate the conversation, Elsie (and your posts on FR), but the majority of American Protestants are some derivative of Anglican, Methodist or Baptist, which were birthed in the underwear of an evil heretic King - Henry VIII.

No thank you.

In case you didn't read my first post to you, I'll say again I'M CATHOLIC. Hellloooooooooooo!

Oh,i saw that, and which is consistent with your antagonism against active evangelicals and the unScriptural belief about the Lord's supper.

f you think listening to secular music and having fun at concerts makes you the devil, then you're weak in your mind and soul. Some of us aren't.

I did not say it makes you the devil, but that he is the one behind such rock music overall, and the debauchery at such concerts, which at the least will make you weak in your and soul. The Lord and the apostle Paul would be preaching and ministering to them as well, versus taking part in the party scene. And which is not the same as sharing meals with sinners who want to hear the gospel, as per Matthew 9:10,11

And if you truly believe in his BLOOD then you believe in transubstantiation as he commanded, but you don't, so we really don't have much to talk about regarding religion.

Rather, if you truly believed as literal the words of consecration at the last supper, that the wine became the same BLOOD that was shed on the cross, then you would believe that it was physically the same, including in its manifestation, as the only Christ of Scripture was. Versus not being what He materially appeared to be (and would scientifically test as), akin to a docetist Christ.

And you would not believe that His body and blood were what appeared to be mere bread and wine, but which no longer exist, having been “substantially changed into the true and proper and lifegiving flesh and blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Mysterium Fidei, Encyclical of Pope Paul VI, 1965) That is, until this non-existent bread and wine (which effects people as being actual bread and wine) begins to manifest decay, at which point Christ no longer exist/is present either, under that appearance either.

And no, I am not making any of this up, as a extensive examination of the Catholic versus Scriptural understanding of the nature of the elements consumed can show you , if you dare objectively consider it, by the grace of God.

We can still be friends on the forum. I mean that.

To some degree, but it was you with your Catholic animosity that choose to denigrate my mere reference to being at Woodstock 94 offering evangelical gospel tracts (and not shouting or acting obnoxious, but was just 2 of us gracious holding out basic tracts (which some RCs are known to give out elsewhere) to the half million or so to take if they wanted, which many did), thanks be to God.

Yes, glory be to God (if only we could sing them all as always being our full experience: Is Jesus always "all the world to us?" etc.)

I put together over 100 (i think) non-copyrighted here , thanks be to God.

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs , singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; (Ephesians 5:19)
