Syrian army deploys to Manbij area after Kurdish calls to deter Turkey

BEIRUT (Reuters) - The Syrian army deployed forces near Manbij in northern Syria on Friday, a war monitor and a U.S. official said, after the Kurdish YPG militia urged Damascus to protect the town, where U.S. forces operate, from the threat of a Turkish offensive.

Manbij, which U.S.-backed forces captured from Islamic State in 2016, has emerged as a focal point of new tensions after U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. forces whose presence has effectively deterred Turkey.

After a Syrian army announcement declaring government troops had entered Manbij, Turkey-backed Syrian rebels stationed in nearby territory said they had begun moving together with Turkish forces toward the town in readiness for “the start of military operations to liberate” it.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a UK-based monitoring group, said the Syrian government forces had entered a strip of territory at the edge of Manbij, not inside the town itself, creating a barrier with Turkey-backed fighters nearby.

The Turkey/ISIS Terrorist coalition attacking the Kurds and the Internationally recognized Government of Syria on Syrian soil, LOL what is NATO to do?

Good for the Syrians. There was never any legitimate reason for the US under Obola and the Witch to try to overthrow Assad in the first place. All we were likely to get if we “won” was a hideous anti-American blood bath where the moderately irritating Assad would have been replaced by an ISIS bunch who made mad dogs look like lap poodles. Of course, that was probably exactly what Obola and the Witch wanted. Now it looks like Assad’s going to protect the Kurds to protect himself from the Islamist Turks, meaning our upcoming withdrawl from Syria will do us nothing but good.

Personally, I don’t give a rat’s rectum about what goes on over there.

However, if the muzzies come over her to blow things up, there will be hell to pay.

Well done to the Kurds! The best army over there that defeated ISIS while the Russians and Regime are bombing children.

A NATO country that violates the sovereignty of another nation should be expelled from NATO.

Of course, that means the U.S. would have been expelled years ago. LOL.

The best way to keep them over there killing each other, the best outcome to be hoped for when dealing with inbred subhuman seventh century savages, is to make sure they have strong local leaders who are willing and happy to kill off the worst of their own subhuman monsters. For the first time in many years we have a President, PDJT, who understands this and is working for it. So far it seems to be working out pretty well, far better than anything any other recent President has done.

Most likely the Syrian forces are there to participate in an attack West against Turk occupation.
With Russian air cover Syria can drive Turks and allies from Aleppo and Idlib.
Turkey could only hold a 10 or 15 mile strip near their border. Maybe Afrin too, maybe not.

What a concept....give Syrian territory back to Syria, and whomever they invite to support them. We were invaders in Syria, without any justification whatsoever for being there any longer.

Aleppo was liberated two years ago...this photo of Mufti Sheikh Mahmoud Akkam, Governor of Aleppo Hussein Diab, and Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II was taken at the Syrian Orthodox Church headquarters last week.

This is the future Syrian nationalists are hoping for in Idlib, once the foreign interventionists and their proxies are defeated.

“what is NATO to do”

Nothing.

The Syrian Army and the Russian Air Force will handle this one.

Turkey is making a grand error and will pay for it.

You may not have read the article. The Kurds are (wisely) seeking the protection of the Syrian “Regime”, also known as the Syrian govt for the past 50 years.

Not the city- the province. Turks and allies have about half Aleppo province and a significant part of Idlib province.
Sorry I wasn’t clear.

So true, and thanks for your correction. He was as bad as the Witch and Obola.

In that case you're exactly right.

Hopefully, the situation can be resolved peaceably for a change.
