Skeeters fill an environmental niche. Remove them and something else will fill the void, for better or (more likely) for worse.

We used to have a plan. It worked pretty well. Malaria was being eradicated. The plan was DDT.

By what selective means, that doesn't effect other insects, arachnids, and other critters - all of which were put on earth for a purpose.

Or, are they just going to apply permethrin over the whole planet?

“...The article explains that Alphabet’s reason for wiping out mosquitoes isn’t primarily humanitarian but rather earnings focused:

Verily guards its technology closely. But it stands to reason that if it succeeds in making mosquito control easy and cheap enough, it could have a lucrative offering on its hands: Many governments and businesses around the globe might be glad to pay for a solution to their mosquito problems...”

Google Plans To Eradicate All Mosquitoes

LOL, Obviously Google has not checked with Rachel Carson.

Even though she's dead and burning in Hell, her Silent Spring Zombies will not allow it.

While they’re at it, I hope gene drive technology can also be used to wipe out blackflies, ticks, chiggers, fire ants, poison ivy, and dozens of other noxious pests.

Google will stop when they realize the third world population starts to rise.

That's why the lies about DDT began.

It was effective and they feared an increased third world population would mean that they demand the benefit of their natural resources.

President Ford got on board as he didn't like the global political implications.

Google will climb on board the eugenics agenda soon enough.

Playing God never works out well.

Don’t bats eat mosquitoes? Perhaps other life on the planet also rely on mosquitoes for their food chain?

Keeping the little pests under control is a great idea, but to try to eliminate them is going too far. There is bound to be an unexpected downside.
