We are in Arizona now, and they don't seem to hang out in Phoenix.

Probably too dry for them. They don't do well in deserts.

“And the Purple Martins?”

That would be my concern. Love the martins.

By what selective means, that doesn't effect other insects, arachnids, and other critters - all of which were put on earth for a purpose.

They're going to use CRISPR/Gene Drive technology. Highly selective of individual target species, so much cleaner and safer than any pesticide. I'm all for it, though I'd rather someone other than the "diversity"-obsessed lefties at Google fund it.

They are everywhere in Az too, in fact we have a strange hybrid cross between the Fire Ant and the Black Ant we call a Purple Ant because in the sun the are indeed purple. and these are even worse.

OMG - they can start at my house. Baltimore was where ’Asian Tigers’ were first introduced, now they are all over the east coast. Those suckers bite in the daytime - Have completely ruined my neighborhood.

The very best thing I’ve ever seen for eradication of flies in the house is our cat.

The fuzzball turns into a Mighty Predator if a fly gets into the house. He’s focused and he’s relentless. I’ve seen him leap into the air and catch one in his mouth. He eats it, too, so I suppose the flies serve a purpose. We call them “kitty raisins.”

We live a few miles from a feedlot. I think you’re right, eliminating the relatively small number of flies that get into your house isn’t likely to change the balance of nature.

Yes! They have taken over southern Georgia. Their huge mounds are everywhere, and they are tricky to kill, and always come back. Worse, my wife had gone through life not knowing that she was horribly allergic to fire ant stings. She found out the hard way, and had to take shots and start carrying an epi-pen. We are in Arizona now, and they don't seem to hang out in Phoenix.

I was once visiting Georgia (before I moved there) and slept in a first-floor bedroom on a cot.

When I got up, I noticed a few ants on the sheets I was sleeping on. Apparently they were crawling in bed with me and I never noticed.

I told my friend Paul, and he went to investigate. He came back into the kitchen with an odd expression. He asked if I had been bitten or stung at all. I replied, no. He responded, "Those were fire ants!!!"

And he looked at me and made a fake-bowing motion towards me, intoning, "ALL HAIL, KING OF THE ANTS! ALL HAIL, KING OF THE ANTS!"

Turns out, that unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe version, I am a REAL LIFE Ant-Man.

Mosquito abatement is big county business here. They spray, they check peoples pools that don’t maintain them and put fish in them to eat the mosquitos. There will be quite a few people out of a job.

There are many types of mosquitoes that are not harmful or even bite. They consume flower nectar and help to pollinate plants.

I hate the biting, disease carrying mosquitoes as much as anybody, but these people are stupid....................

Well, if they are "everywhere", not possibly in the same numbers. In Georgia, you can see 18" high mounds all over the place. I haven't seen one in Arizona in either Phoenix or Mesa, where I have spent most of my time. I will warn my wife abouth the purple ones, though. I am not sure why a cross between an aggressive, poisonous fire ant and a common black ant would be worse than the undiluted version, though.

Dragon Fly larvae eat mosquito larvae in the water before they become adults.

No mosquitoes = No Dragon Flies....................

Since we are on the subject of exterminating insects we don't like, allow me to submit the deer fly as a candidate for extinction.

These are the pests that fly circles around your head on hot muggy mornings and take chunks of flesh out of the back of your neck. Nasty creatures.
