Here we go again with another partial government shutdown.
The fact that government shutdowns are so regular, and annoying to some but never a catastrophe tells you something.
The fact that the vast majority of the federal government is nonessential enough that the vast majority of Americans can get by just fine without it tells you something.
Basically, its national security and defense including border protection, by the way that are considered essential. Gee, thats interesting. Thats basically what the U.S. Constitution mandates for the federal government. Everything else was left to the people and the states. Theres also Social Security and Medicare. Retirement and health insurance were not part of the Constitution. But once the government passed laws making them promises, they became essential. Whether they government should have done that is another discussion.
Beyond that, pretty much everything is nonessential.
We have all these histrionics and theatrics every so often about a government shutdown. But the government only partially shuts down. It appears that the vast majority of what the federal government does is nonessential, so while inconvenient, its not the end of the world. It proves that everything the federal government does thats shut down during these periods could be provided for just as well actually, much better by the private, voluntary, and/or for-profit sector.
The founders of the United States who drafted the Constitution got it right. Imagine that!
If the shut down lasts long enough it will prove that we don’t need this crap.
“Basically, its national security and defense including border protection,”
Its all outlined in a thing called the enumerated powers. And this article quote is not far off..making commerce regular is another.
If the shut down lasts long enough it will prove that we dont need this crap.
And THAT scares the hell out of The Swamp.
I’m pretty sure Trump will make this last as long as necessary. He sees what we see. He knows the government isn’t that important. The swamp knows it too. They just don’t want the rubes to figure out the game.
Is there even a ‘shut down’ yet at all? The so-called shut-down began on Saturday, when most Federal Government offices are closed anyway. The POTUS declared Monday, Christmas Eve, a Federal Holiday; today, Christmas Day, is normally a Federal Holiday; and the Federal Government offices are closed. Seems to me, the ‘shut down’ won’t even start until tomorrow, Wednesday, 26 Dec.
I have a VA medical appointment tomorrow, so I’ll let you all know if THAT part of the Federal Government is ‘shut down’ or not.
Yes sir you are correct. It sure does.
The longer it goes, the more people will realize why in the hell do we need those things...such as the National Park system, the US Forest Service, The BLM.
These are all managed for the public as a trust and the local governments can manage those trusts better since they know the best for those lands.
That’s the Dems’ worst nightmare.
“If the shut down lasts long enough it will prove that we dont need this crap.”

I doubt it. Trump presented a budget proposal that slashed spending and a few agencies. Speaker Paul Ryan took one look at it, shrugged, and threw it in the trash. Then Congress passed another deficit busting pork fest of a budget.
Neither party is interested in cutting back government agencies. When the average Joe has five hundred TV channels available to him and the government still thinks it is necessary to fund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, don’t be looking for serious reform.
Trump should start permanent layoffs and closures. Schumer would soil himself.
That is one of the many reasons that worries the Uniparty.
AMEN AMEN AMEN!!!!!
SO TRUE!!!!
If the blather focuses too much on the “non-essential” moniker, expect the govt to come up with new terms like “primary” and “secondary” or first and second tiers. Lefties just rename things when they become problematic. Problem solved.
If you are “nonessential” why do you still have a job?
Please President Trump, you are a businessman, sack them now.
A study recently conducted by the Chicago Tribune showed that the federal government is now the biggest land owner, property manager, renter, mover and hauler, medical clinician, lender, insurer, mortgage broker, employer, debtor, taxer and spender in all history. That was back in 1960. How much worse 58 years afterwards?
