Chuck Schumer vows to continue his government shutdown forever rather than fund a wall:
President Trump, if you want to open the government, you must abandon the wall, plain and simple.
Schumer claims the Democrats are “open to discussing any proposal as long as they do not include anything for the wall.” Sure they are.

Schumer is making no arguments to support his position of no border wall. He’s just saying no.
Schumer, what is it exactly about the wall that you hate so much, that keeping it unfunded is more important than ending a government shutdown? It certainly isn’t the cost. Even if I accept your phony argument that the wall isn’t necessary for good border security, who cares? Wasting money never bothered you before, and this is 5 billion - a pittance compared to the 100’s of billions of dollars you’re happy to waste every year.
Why don’t you publicly proclaim that it’s a waste of money, but for the benefit of keeping the government open, you’ll agree to it ? After all, as compromises go, giving up 5 billion isn’t all that much in the grand scheme of things. Could it be that the reason you don’t want the wall funded is the opposite of what you claim? (i.e. it’s a waste of money and will have no effect) Could it be that you don’t want the wall funded precisely because it WILL work? Hmmm.

You are not wrong. I know of nobody who is losing sleep about the shutdown. But a lot of them talk about needing the wall. Schumer is so far out of touch, he doesn’t begin to realize it.
A shutdown STARVEs the swamp. It also cut’s off all sort of money to Liberal causes. Let it happen.
The government is fully funded to the end of 2019. Let it happen.

If that is Schumer’s game then he’s in for a big disappointment. President Trump’s base will not turn against him as long as he continues to show strength and leadership, and never gives up on keeping his promises - and he continues to do just that. Moreso than any President in our lifetimes, even the great Ronald Reagan.
Trump is not a king. His true base is made up of intelligent people who understand and respect the fact that the Constitution places strict limitations on what the Executive Branch can do, without the consent of the other two Branches.
No reasonable person, certainly none of the patriots who make up his base, could possibly find fault with President Trump’s resolve with regard to the issue of border security, and specifically his dedication to championing the building of a wall.
If the wall doesn’t happen, no one will blame Donald Trump, certainly nobody in his base!
