Supreme Court rejects Trump plea (5-4 Roberts joins the liberals) to enforce asylum ban

he Supreme Court won’t let the Trump administration begin enforcing a ban on asylum for any immigrants who illegally cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

New Justice Brett Kavanaugh and three other conservative justices sided with the administration.

The court’s order Friday leaves in place lower court rulings that blocked President Donald Trump’s proclamation in November automatically denying asylum to people who enter the country from Mexico without going through official border crossings.

Trump said he was acting in response to caravans of migrants making their way to the border.

The administration had also complained that the nationwide order preventing the policy from taking effect was too broad.

But Chief Justice John Roberts and the court’s four more liberal justices rejected the administration’s suggestion for narrowing it.

I’ve said it since Roberts Obamacare ruling - The demoKKKrats have pictures of Roberts and he doesn’t want anyone to see them.

Roberts does this freely. We mustn’t delude ourselves into thinking he is forced to rule like this.

Roberts has to cover up is homosexual past, and then his human trafficking in Irish babies. Total POS. Is it going to run to Malta and hide out in a monastery again?

The left want to target trumps “kids”; if we are not opening the ammo box yet; let us make sure our memories are long and target this POS’ illegally adopted kids. In the meantime. hope a long flight of stairs and gravity deal with him; or athe very least, an illegal t-bones him while drunk.

I believe it is now mostly a moot point, with yesterdays direction, but what worries me more is Roberts.

"The Supreme Court swing vote is arguably the most powerful man in America. The lure of such power must be hard to resist."

Nailed it. What you wrote in two sentences is like poetry. It means Roberts fancies himself a 'counterweight' to a constitutional republic. The same constitutional republic that stuffs money in his pockets to misrepresent US, the United States.

Pelosi/Schumer probably did a proxy vote. She was unconscious, but it was what she wanted.

... the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 allows for the - "suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by the president...

The President doesn't even have to impose restrictions - their entry is already illegal.

The question is what happens when they break the law and are apprehended and in US custody, and the law is pretty clear that they can request asylum.

Yep. Brought us Obama, the 2008, stayed silent about Obama, then opens his yapper against our America-first President.

I think someone said Malta is a great place for offshore bank accounts.

I don’t know if that’s true. I’m pinging Travis just to bring him to the thread if he hasn’t seen it. I’m not suggesting Travis said that. I don’t really recall who may have suggested it.

The question is what happens when they break the law and are apprehended and in US custody, and the law is pretty clear that they can request asylum.

From the same Act: "The president may, by proclamation and for such a period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens, immigrants or non- immigrants, or impose any restrictions on the entry of aliens he may deem to be appropriate."

Those requesting asylum are a class of immigrant.

Roberts pretended to be a conservative, as long as it didn’t matter how he voted.

Those requesting asylum are a class of immigrant.

True. And their entry is already suspended by existing law.

This isn't about entry, it's about requesting asylum.
