WASHINGTON Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg underwent surgery on Friday to remove two nodules from her left lung, according to Kathleen Arberg, a Supreme Court spokeswoman. The nodules were discovered during tests following a fall in which Justice Ginsburg fractured her ribs.

It would be very stressful for Trump to have to go through another appointment next year. After the Kavanaugh show, I could not even imagine the hordes of evil minions that would emerge clawing on the SCOTUS doors
Since I am 73 I can ask this question, “What percentage of 84 year old women recover and for how long from cancer?” She is on borrowed time
.
Everything that happens in a hospital shortens the lives of the victims these days.
I’m so sorry.
.
Truly!
(and I’m 74!)
Tell me about it. I'm a broker and every time an elderly client or relative goes in they either don't come out or have a hell of a time fighting CDIF, Strep, Staph, MRSA, or Pneumonia.
Something to remember: in older patients, many cancers (most? all?) spread more slowly than in younger patients.

We all are.

There you go! So do I
Bone metz? Perhaps?

Not for the elites.
So....can they give us a prognosis, yet?
The old girl is falling apart, from the inside out.
Do we have an over/under betting pool on the date yet? John McCain went on ever so much longer than I anticipated.
Best I can say is that I hope her passing is painless. And quick.
.
Can’t argue with that point.
My mother passed at 91 of stomach cancer..she lived a year after diagnosis with extended radiation treatments!
There are three ways to do a left lower lobectomy: Open (using a rib spreader to gain access), laparoscopic (keyhole surgery, but there is usually an incision made to allow the diseased lobe to be removed), and robotic (similar to laparoscopic with the lobe taken out through an incision in the thorax).
If they did it open with a rib spreader, they would have to wait for the ribs to heal from the fall which accounts for the delay. Also, if they give her chemo, it will slow the bone and cartilage healing process.
The lower lobe is the big one probably 60% of the lung mass on the left side. It needs to be isolated by stapling the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein and the air pathway(s), then it is removed as a unit. This prevents the seeding of other tumors.
Also, most of the lymph nodes are taken out in order from the lower lobe going up the esophagus and each one is sent to pathology to see if the cancer has spread to the lymphatic system.
It is a big operation, but by taking the whole lobe (which was not highlighted in the press...), there is a much better chance of survival post-surgery.
If anyone is interested, you can go to youtube and search for left lower lobectomy and see one.
Not a MD, but involved in the industry.
It is used to describe end of life care....at her age.
“stressful for Trump”
I don’t worry about Trump being stressed out. He even seems to relish the battles. Rush once said that no other Republican could take 25% of what Trump’s taken from the media, they’d be compromising and begging for peace terms.
